starter problems

    i just got a 1987 xj650 the buke has ben sitting for years. i alredy have removed the carbs and rebilt them. the battery was shot so i got a new one. but now when i try to start the bike. the starter turns over ok but when i try to start it i can hear the starter turning over but it is not turning the motor over please help me. i am pulling my hair out. anyone ever had this before? if so what fixed it?

    Sounds like the starter clutch is hanging up for some reason. Maybe push start the bike and get it good and warmed up so the oil splashes up there. It might start working. Not a fun job if you have to get into it. Good luck
