The XJ name is being used in Europe for this bike shown on the MCN website. It's sold in the US as the FZ6S and is supposed to be on the FZ6 of last year, albeit with less bhp and more weight. Shame to use the name really.

I checked the Yamaha 2009 lineup for the US on their website and noticed something: In sportbikes, you can get a 600 (4 of them actually, from $7K to $10K including the "new" FZ6R) two models of YZ/FZ 998cc, and the two monster FJ1300s. That's it. No 250's no 400's no 750's. That's in "streetbikes."

Under "Cruisers" which are all "Star" Motorcycles now not "Yamaha" there is a 250, a 650, a 950 and bigger, all V-TWIN Harley wannabes. And that's it folks. So hang on to those XJs.

I read that artical in MCN with a bit of disapointment.
Reads as the new XJ is just a tuned down version of the Fazer. So I was left thinking "What is the point" Shurely Yamaha have not produced an XJ for so long that the stable is dead (well apart from us) Any one with the cash to buy a new bike would go for the more up-spek Fazer

Yeah, doesn't make a lot of sense. I guess they might be going after the Divy crowd.

to me it is funny, my 550 seca has so much usable power right off the bottom till it signs off, I owned a 05 FZ6 and the power sucked, there was no power until I hit 7000rpm, then hold on for dear life. Personally I love the engine in my 550 way more than the fz6, give me a FZ6 with a i4 engine with the power characteristics of my 550,

I've ridden a handful of the bigger displacement v-twin "Star" bikes. They're not Harley wanna-be's. If anything, harley wants to be a star. Tons more torque and top-of-the-rpm-range power, better fuel economy, and a better sound IMO.

Harley and their stupid trademarked v-twin angle to get that sound .... its actually one of the less-effective angles to set a twin up at.

On a related note, harley is going down the tubes. Announced 1100 layoffs today, along with multiple plant closures.

I like the look of this bike, but after watching that video, I can tell the engine is a whiny, buzzing, piece of garbage that needs to be wound really high to get any usable, "fun" power of it.
