I wouldn't want to wear a helmet with the sweat of a thousand Nigerians in it.
    I see there point.
Imagine the smell of a helmet that has been worn 15 hours a day in an African country for a year.

    Yep

But did you see the price of helmets?
If 500 naira = (2.42 pounds) then 800 naira is less than £4 or $6

Almost worth the trip to Nigeria and buy a few helmets to bring home

Did you see the new Top Gear.
They travel one thousand miles through Vietnam on a Honda 50, a vespa and some kind of russian 125 enduro.
There helmets were woks and strainers.

I heard on the news they just passed a helmet law there. I believe in helmet laws if your on public road (not if your on your land). Only because if you crash and have no health insurance the tax payer's are the ones paying for it and head injuries are alot of money. Sorry if i made anyone mad.

this always turns into a ford vs chevy debate........

i think helmet laws are right there with seat belt laws. whether you think we should have the laws or not, i believe we should have BOTH or none.

as for this article.....whats the difference between a gourd shell and a non-snell approved helmet? after all, a brain bucket is a brain bucket!

As someone who has traveled extensively I see what these people earn. When you pay what would be equal to pennies for a 12 mile ride these people have to make a decision on feeding their family or buying a helmet. My heart goes out to these people when I visit these places at whet they make and what they need to spend to live.

I believe as an ER nurse that everone on a bike should wear a helmet but in motorcycle society like those in Africa and Asia, it's difficult to justify the expense when food is so expensive compared to their income.
