Hey guys, just getting ready to reinstall my carbs, was wondering if I needed to apply any gasket material or sealant around the carb boots where they meet the cylinders?

    Thanks again, Mac

It's a good idea, use the spray type.

if the gaskets are shot, you should replace to avoid vacuum leaks... sealant is good too, as wizard said.

you can cut your own from gasket paper available at auto parts store
or order oem ones from chacal

Can you tell us more about how you made carb boots? Sounds like a very useful project.

The easiest Gasket you are ever going to make is the Manifold Gasket.
A Classic pliers-type One Hole Punch cuts a hole for the Cap Screw ears.
Scissors, X-Acto, or a 19mm Hole Punch will cut the Inside Hole.

Any time I need to replace to replace Manifolds to the Head ... I cut some New Gaskets and treat the Gaskets and Surfaces with the Oldest and Leak-proof-est Gasket Sealing Material ever made.

    Indian Head Gasket Shellac.

    It WILL NOT Leak!

Thanks guys, I'll look at what products are avail up here, and make a choice from there. It seems that both the spray and gasket material are the common choices from your responses. Thanks again for the help.

SQL. i just trimmed up some 1.5" to 1.5" flexible rubber plumbing couplers to fit. they fit perfectly in the airbox and over the carb throat. there was a thread on this a while ago i think.

getting them on is a bitch; my garage is not heated and we've had some frigid days, plus they are a little longer than the factory boots.
