My sight glass doesn't have any visible marks on it. I always keep the oil about half way up the sight glass, but I just read a post that it sould be near the top. Does any one have a picture of a sight glass with the marks on it? Just wondering if I am running it with low oil.

The mark is actually on the metal near the glass not on the glass. A small line very near the top of the glass.

I keep mine near the top of the glass with a small bubble visible. halfway down the glass is a bit low.

The marks are horizontal (raised) lines cast into the case on either side of the sight glass hole. They're pretty obvious; you probably never realized that's what they are there for, they don't look real "precise."

None of my Photobucket pics show it very well and I'm at work or I could get you one. If you still can't figure it out I can out up a pic later.

As long as you have oil showing in the site glass, your good to go. It's better to have it lower than over filled anyways. I usually run mine so there's 1/4" showing and have no problems.

Yamaha posted a tech bulletin stating that the oil level should reach the top fill mark to avoid false oil light events under hard acceleration (seems this was a common issue!).
I would counsel you to fill it to maximum and keep it there as it is easier to starve the oil pump with less than it is with more. Plus you keep up with any of the oil leaks that seem to appear with age. This does not mean to overfill, instead it means you need to keep it where it belongs (i.e. not neglect the important "oil level eyeball" when ever you stop to tank up).
Turkey, did you find the markings on your case? If not, we will find you a picture... (anyone???).
