Yea, so I do part time pizza delivery, which puts me on the road alot. There is also a LOT of cruiser riders out here. And a lot of stupid ones, too. All the time, I see them do stupid(and basic) safety things, like slowing down WITHOUT using the brake, or making a turn with no brake or turn signals. These are EASY things, to ensure you don't get rear ended! Yet they fail to do them. But I suppose since almost none of them wear helmets, it's to be expected.

That's all, just felt like sharing that.

Many motorcycle accidents are the fault of cars (ask Ben Rothlisbergermeistermeisterberger) but riders share a lot of the blame in many cases as you suggest. Just my $.02.

I drive truck for a living, everyday I see people do stupid things. The list goes on and on.People that pull out in front of trucks make me laugh. It is bigger you will lose.I rode to Va last year and the crotch rocket rider drive like nuts. What gets me thou is the cell phone users.I watched the bimbet try to back into a spot between 2 cars while talking on the phone. One handed yeah right she gave up,like the spot was 2 small.Go figure.

This all simply highlights a general malaise that American drivers have fallen into since the bells and whistles became standard features and that there is no incentive nor re-enforcement from society to observe good driving habits. Time was that if you drove like a fool, society shunned you. Now, you pull your tire off the ground and your admired. Off road, ok that is expected, but it really has no place on the road. I was raised and taught that driving was a privlige and heavy responsibility because people could get hurt if you goofed up. Everyone seems to think it won't happen to them and that they are not at fault for their actions (darned liberals will be the end of us all). Start holding people accountable for their actions again and watch the idiot factor drop. Grrr....

I love that fact that anyone with about $25 can get a drivers license.I lived over seas for awhile and everyone tood drivers lessons totaling about $5,000 to get the privledge to drive.I can't rember seeing a fender bender over there,a dui was a worse offense then killing someone.

    Same sentaments here.

I've never owned car with any fancy safety features...unless you consider a 3k lb steel box with a 415 V8 a safety feature. I was sideswiped by a city bus once and aside from some pant issues the car was just fine, show me a modern vehicle that can do that.

Personally, I dislike all the crumple zones, impact panels and whatnot on new cars, they've designed them to be destoryed in the slightest accident. Sure, it may be safer but I've never felt more safe in a vehicle then I did in my 82 Olds.

My first car was an '82 Buick Regal LTD, I drove it to the scrap yard with 542,000 miles on it, and the eninge was still strong (severe frame rust had made it uninsurable. I doubt any car from the last 10 years could take that kind of mileage and still purr to start when its -10F outside.

Maybe that was a little off topic, random rant, sorry.

Now you went and got me thinking about my 1st ride a 1953 Mercury Monterey convertible, with power seats and windows and steering. Talk about a tank..... I miss that old sled...
Oh well I'll shut up now

I sure hope that was really a paint problem and not a pant problem.
    Sorry, I couldn't resist.:D

    haha, one heckuva typo :p

Considering it was early January and the bus was sliding across some black ice towards my car, i'd say it was a bit of a "pant" problem as well :D

    I have my moments ;)

I agree with you Robert, it's nice that most everyone can take a little humor with all this serious bike chat going around.
