i have a 81 xj just finished before i got deployed to iraq just wanted to know what people think of it and possible how much it would be worth if i would sell it. i paid 300 for the bike and put about 550 into afterwards on upgrades. also i want to get some ideas from people so when i get back i can do more to it.

Great looking bike, I'd say you could double your money easily - $1600-$1700, or even better, depends on alot of things really

I would have to agree - mileage and the overall condition of the engine are important. But you should do well if you decide to sell it.

    Wonderful paint job. Wonderful restoration.
I am not a fan of the tall ape hangers so those would be a minus for me.

There are lots of folks who would love to own that bike.
You should have no problem selling it if that is the route you decide to take.

If you like doing this sort of thing often, you could possibly make money buying junkers and restoring them and selling them.

In my neck of the woods there is a vintage Japanese owners club that meets annually for a show and a ride. That is the sort of place that you can sell a restoration.

my intentions right now are not to sell but just trying to figure out how much it would be worth to people just in case and its helping settle an argument issue on how much it would've been worth

Dang! I agree. That is a gorgeous color but if I went to the automotive paint store and asked for blue paint with no additional descriptors they would run me out of the store and get a restraining order against me for wasting their time!

Can you remember anything more descriptive about what color blue it is? Like Midnight Blue, or Twilight Blue? It would also help to know the manufacturers name.

    Great looking ride!

Keep your head down buddy and come back safe to ride you great looking bike!

Nice looking bike Gurry !! (except the seat looks lumpy ?)
It looks nicer, and therefore worth more than this bike on E-Bay right now. . .

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Custom-B ... otorcycles

But usually XJ 's top out at $2,500 regardless of how nice they really are.

I'm betting on Cobalt or something like that. Thinking something along that line with some orange "neon" or accents somewhere and oranged lighting for the instruments. Would go down real well here in FL and my alma mater would be so proud. (even if cobalt is not Gator blue.).

    WOW!
    That E-Bay Maxim sold for $2,500 !
I guess there IS a market for chopped-up and black primered 28 year old 650 's. Lessee- - trailer fender, mountain bike handlebar, Dented Harley tank, chrome pick-up exhaust tips, lardass seat from an exercise bike, and you're done!

its amazing what some people will spend to get stuff they want. that person probally could have bought the same bike and paid someone to do the work to it for a little less. my total for my whole project including the cost of the bike was roughly 900

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
what do you do to the chromed fenders to get them to take paint? sandblast them?

ive got a slightly banged up front fender that i thought could be made whole again if i blasted it, put some bondo on and then finished...

i love the fenders matching the rest of the bike. brings it all together...
