I recently laid down my 82 seca 650. Walked away and bike is repairable so no foul there. The big problem I'm facing is that my 4th cylinder ignition cable severed somehow. I was able to duct tape it back together as a temp fix but clearly need to replace it. I can't figure out how though. The cable are formed into the ignition coils and don't seem to want to pull out. Am I wrong in this or am I going to have to replace a perfectly good ignition coil just to replace the cable?

yep they are molded in the coils, you can buy an NGK spark plug wire insert from Z1 enterprises.com, cut the wire put the insert in and then you can replace the wire/cap
Or get a used coil with the wires.

I think I'll go with opening the coils and dropping in a new wire. Much cheaper, I'm sure. That's a hell of a design flaw for an otherwise well designed bike. Do you know if there will be an issue should I decide to go up to a thicker cable? My guess is that'd just give me better spark.

    no, most wires/caps have resistors

i would say get the same size wire

if you want more spark remove the resistor
but then your plugs will go sooner

You can remove the wires witout destroying the wires. As long as there is some wire left out of the coil. Put a pair of pliers on it and rotate it gently until you feel it free up. You can then slide it out the coil pack. I used a 7mm automotive wire to replace it with. Before installing the new wire, push a nail or similar item into the center electrode portion of the wire. Apply a little silicone to the wire approximately 1 inch away from the end and firmly insert it into the coil while rotating it. Make sure you are very firm pushing it in to seat the ele3ctrode. Let dry and you should be good to go. Check out my Blog, it might help.

We have a link in our DITY section. The repair is for a later model but the knowledge is totally transferable. I've milled two sets of coils for this repair already and will be completing the repair shortly. Pictures to follow...

Ive had good experiences getting rid of the resistors in the spark plug boots... I love my accel wires as well, made the bike run quite a bit better, old wires were probably nasty inside
