Just grabbed a maxim 550 today. Great bike, runs like a champ, it's an 1981 550, with 21K miles. Rode her home. Paid $520 for it. [IMG] [IMG]

Going to clean up the rust tomorrow and get it looking a bit better. Looking foward to riding it some more.

Sweet looking ride, Andy!! Of course, I may be just a little prejudiced. Post some pics as you go.

Also, where are you from? Looks like Colorado or maybe Vermont tags.

Lots of knowledge on this board. If you have any ??'s, just ask, someone here will know the answer.

    SUHWEEET. Welcome aboard!

Get a manual and go through the entire maintenance section, leave nothing out. CHECK THOSE VALVE CLEARANCES right away. This was often neglected due to the cost of having a dealer do it, even back in the day. It REALLY makes a difference with the 550's trust me.

Also, with that mileage, the chain is probably getting pretty close to done. Be sure to check the chain and sprockets right away too.

The 550 is the "best kept secret" in XJ-land. They rock. But then again I might be a tad prejudiced.

Chain is gunked and gooed. Bike was owned by a dealer, Has been gone through ( carbs cleaned and what not ) has NGK plug wires and what not, motor just has a little discoloration from being sitting. Runs like a top with no issues. Other then the rust. I am in Washington, Bike is from Colorado.
