I have spent the last couple of weeks polishing the motor and now am getting down to the fine details.

The shifter lever on my bike is rusted and pitted beyond repair but unfortunately our favorite XJ parts guy does not have access to a new unit. That leaves me with going to the dealer for a new one or having my old one re-plated.

I honestly have no idea what it would cost to have something this small chrome plated does anyone have an idea?

    Thanks

    Rob

i would guess 20 bucks tops... you try using steel wool? my cb lever was pretty bad, i used steel wool and some metal polish and bam! good as new
ps... if its really pitted, i dont think chrome plating will fill in the holes... you may need to use bondo if it will hold up to the plating

schooter, I am not sure you can chrome plate bondo but I do believe that I can sand thru the existing chrome and get rid of the pits.

Would you guys laugh at me if I asked about the chrome paints on the market.....Oh never mind :)

I don't know how much you can expect to pay to chrome a small part like this. However I remember seeing a show for customizing bikes that mentioned that there are many different types of plating out there, all at various cost of course. I remember seeing some plated parts that were not chromed but some other type of plating and they still looked awesome for only a fraction of the price.

Might be worth talking to a plating expert and ask a few questions, maybe see a few samples, before committing to chrome.

    Cheers.

Did you check out MikesXS, they have the levers for relatively cheap - I`m not positive if they will work but one of the gurus should be able to tell you.

You want to talk to plating shops --- more than one --- before you even THINK about getting anything chrome plated. It's ungodly expensive, no matter who you ask, some more ungodly than others.

That lever will probably run anywhere from $30-$60 to get plated.

I can put you onto an NOS source but the cheapest I found is $69 (they have plenty in stock.)

Do the 650 Max and 750 Seca have different shift levers?
