    I'm working on modding my xj650. Considering running open headers. Was wondering what kind of adjustments, if any, I need to make. Carbs, breathers, etc.

    Thanks

    thow some pods on and you'll be fine.... just kidding, you may,/ will probably need to put some larger jets in your carbs.... and you may want to have a steady supply of valves on hand....

    If you were planning on changing to pods you might as well do it all at once since you will need to rejet anyways.

    straight pipes are "weapons of mass destruction" loud. tried it, my ears bled, and never again will i go back.

    a definite re-jet will be in order.

    i ran open headers on my 550 seca for about 2 years. you will need to go to stage three jets ($115) as stage 2 jets ($110) are for modified or after market pipes. as well as a k&n air filter ($50) or pods. this way you get enough air and fuel going in as coming out. i loved the sound of mine without mufflers. its a great deep throaty sound down low and it screams like a banshee when getting close to 8k rpm

    Where do you suggest to go. I found a dynojet stage 3 for a 550 will that work just as well. Or should I just check ebay or something. Been looking for parts for this bike without much luck. Any suggestions where to order from? Thanks for the quick replies

    why is this in the FAQ? And NO you will not burn up your valves. That is quite a myth. Just use common sense and know how to jet a carb properly and you'll be fine.

    def wrong forum, but...

    I have open headers and just rejetted larger with jets from chacal without all the kit work lot cheaper if you be patient with trial and error.

    Im also a fan of the "lollipop" home made baffles, thier kinda tunable and def add a lil back pressure and velocity to the open headers. It also gives it a slightly different sound that I like.

    they are bolts with washers welded on the ends to make the exhaust diameter smaller. you can slant them in the pipe to for modified flow.
