    Nothing new here really.

    1. Kroil- if you don't have it get it! Unbelievable stuff. When I get down to 1 can I will re-order lest I run out.

    2. Inch pound torque wrench. I have a cheapy one from Harbor Freight but could never feel the thing "click over". I bought a new one from Sears for $71.99 and it is great. I was working on my baby wing today and had to torque down the front cover bolts to 2.5-3.6 ft lbs. Impossible torque value to get on a ft lb tool. It's easy to convert to in lbs (multiply by 12) to get 30 to 43.2 inch lbs.which is safely above the bottom of the scale for the tool. It was nice to not worry about breaking off these 5mm bolts. Get one! The standard torque value for a 6mm bolt/nut is 5 to 8 ft lbs or 60 to 96 in lbs. It's easy to break or strip out these little fadteners.

For the harbor freight wrenches you need to work they a bit when new. I clamped mine is a vice and worked it a bit and it is fine. Also minimum on the 3/8 is 5 ft lbs....

    i thought 5 ft/lb was using a 5lb hammer to hit a 1foot spanner.

I once, Once tightened my oil filter bolt without a torque wrench and snapped the cover in half. cost me 20 dollars for a new one then I got a used inch lb torque wrench from my snap on dealer for 20 bucks.

thats a 40 dollar lesson folks. never again

if its stuck and I can't get it out I rip it off and buy a new one . lol

The Fitz is the Schnizz Sage, always has been, always will be, even to the ends of the age. Amen

Sure do like my in./lb torque wrench from Craftsman though. The advantage over the Harbor Freight model is most evident at the time the dialed in torque value is reached. The handle on the HF model, when it 'clicks over' is too subtle for me, especially at lower values. The Craftsman, on the other hand, moves a greater distance and with an audible click and a very tactile feeling.

As far as using a ft/lb torque wrench for a bolt needing 5 or 6 ft. lbs torque it should be much more accurate using an in/lb wrench. At 5 ft/lbs the in/lb equivalent is 60 in/lbs. With a ft/lb wrench this value is at the absolute bottom of the measurable scale while the 60 in/lbs is well into the measurable area of am in/lb tool Most torque wrenches declare an accuracy rating of X% accuracy between +/- a percentage of rated capacity. i.e. +/- 2% accuracy between +/- 20% of scale. There is no warranty of accuracy within the bottom 20% or the top 20%.

Now, this being said, 5 ft/lbs on a ft//lb wrench is probably way close enough. I think the real key is uniformity not hitting the torque value on the nose. As long as fasteners don't snap or holes lose their threads which I would think would be unlikely.

Another however coming up...... However, if you truly believe 'close enough' is 'close enough', you will never get a new Craftsman in/lb. torque wrench!!!

I defer to the one and only True Sage Mr. BigFitz.

    Nuff said.
