A co-worker told me his neighbor was selling a '71 Bronco for $1500. He decided not to buy it. I had already told him to let me (and his neighbor) know if he didn't want it because I definately might. Turns out his neighbor is another co-worker of mine.

So, I went and looked at, over and through the bronco last night. It was parked nearly 2 years ago. Was yard driven a couple times, but isn't starting right now.

302 bored .40 over, mild cam, Edelbrock intake and (500cfm) carb, MSD ignition, rusty headers with a hole in one pipe, but comes with NIB JBA ceramic coated headers, K&N filter, electric fuel pump. Professional rebuild was about 20k ago, Optima red top.

Newer clutch, tranny rebuilt, xfer case rebuilt + a spare, custom made driveshafts + spares, manual hubs. May need 1 bearing in front left. Hurst shifter installed to replace 3 on the tree.

Newer master cylinder, newer brake lines, brakes, wheel cylinders. Dana 44 front, 9" rear (from a 72), poly bushings throughout the front, all sitting on 4" lift. Gears are 3.50s

Rear quarters have been done, front fenders are newer, but weren't painted (just primer) so surface rust on them. Some rust on the doors, but not bad for 37 yrs in New England, same with rockers. Worst rust is the rear wheelwells. Passenger side is toast, but new replacement comes with it. Rear floor has been replaced and reinforced. Comes with new floor support for driver's floor (goes all the way across). New soft top, no hard top, had too much rust so it got scrapped.
    Frame is boxed and solid.

33x12.50s in good shape, one a little older, but comes with new spare on new rim.

Tom was showing me some of the receipts & manuals (the guy can talk!) and we talked price a little (I was wondering if the $1500 price was just what he offered my other coworker since they're neighbors) and he said to give him a figure, so I'm picking it up Saturday for $1000.

Beautiful! Early Bronco is one of my dream rides! Of course, I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Scout either...

    I owned a '64 Scout 80 and a '71 Travelall. You couldn't beat 'em with a stick.

A Travelall!??! Those were gorgeous beasts. I'd love to get my hands on one of those or a 3-door Suburban. Unfortunately there aren't too many of those survivors up here in the GWN. I don't think a lot of them were sold here and those that were rusted out long ago. I came close on a '71 Jimmy a couple years back but someone else got their deposit on it before me. Maybe a good thing with the current price of fuel...

Got her home yesterday. Only thing I forgot to do was....get the keys from the PO
Managed to make some room in the barn and get her squeezed in so she won't be out in the snow today. Summers are going to be tough this year....bike? bronco? bike? bronco?
I'm sure I'll ride the bike just as much, if not more than last year provided the weather allows me to.
