Hey all, I've been lurking and decided to register since I picked up a project. Well I had chalked it up this year to not getting a bike due to some other obligations. Thanks to a certain friend that wouldn't let that go, I got into a bike on the cheap in the form of an 81 Yamaha XJ650. I got it home, put it on the battery charger, played with the choke, she fired right up. She's got some small leaks that are an easy fix but the big project has yet to come. This will be the last time she looks like this. Build pics/thread to follow. There's a certain bobber thread on here that's just awesome that I plan to mimic and put my own touches on it. I hope to have the frame done in a few weeks or so.

Thanks for the welcome. There's a thread in there that got me the bug to do a bobber. He did an awesome job so I'm going to do my best to mimic it and put some of my own touches on it. I hope it comes out at least half as nice.

Welcome aboard and thanks for the pic. Looks like a very nice set of wheels but I'd try to keep it stock, from the pic it looks restorable.

Good luck and keep us posted!

The nice thing about having a bike thats paid for is that you can do what ever you want with it! I say go for it, good luck and post some more pic's as you go!

    Hey Quarter,

Are you going to be selling off some of the stock parts on that bike? If so I need the turn signals and the fork badge that says Yamaha on it. Let me know when you decide to get rid of some of that stuff.
