ok this ones been on my mind for a little while:

if your cams where shot and you bought a new set off fleahbay or craigslist how would you know how to reseat the cams so that the the exhaust/intake happens at the right time, because according to my mind logic(which is off a lot) if you did not get your cams in exactly the right position it would make your engine not run or run like s**t.

am i off on my logic???

Yes I'm pretty sure they have stamps... or the three bolts on the cam gear are offset.
I cant remember, its been about 3 years since I overhauled mine.

most engines i have seen have identifying/aligning marks, i have worked on KTM engines that have marks on the chain that line up with dots on the sprockets.......i have not cracked open the seca yet but i dont see why it would be any different

I believe the XJ cams have a punch mark that is to be aligned to a similar mark on one of the bearing caps. Then you align the correct marks on the timing plate and put the chain on.
