i just got an xj700n, when the choke is on the engine floods and gas runs out the over flow while the starter is turning the engine, engine wont start. choke off, motor starts. seems like the choke stays a little on al the time. is this possible? this is my 2nd. xj and never seen nothing like this. anyone got an idea?

yup that sounds correct.... rull the float needles and check the vynal tip for "seating" if it is showing wear you need to replace it. as a test method you can put the needles in boiling water for 5-10 min getting them clean and soft again and re-install it. while your there you might as well do a good thorough cleaning of the carb. chancer ar good that if you got a stuck float you have varnish build up as well.

Yep. Sounds about right. Best thing you can do to ANY new XJ is to clean the carbs thoroughly. Chances are the previous owner didnt take care of it like they should have. Clean em up, run some Seafoam through the tank, install a new fuel filter, and check those needles for wear and tear. She should be purring again in no time.

thanks for responding folks. i'm no stranger to a stuck up carb. when i got the bike it ran fine 14,650 mi. 3 weeks ago. my choke stays on a little now, some one unhooked the vacume lines on the carbs and i don't know where to put them bake yet. i ordered a manuel. when i get it i will take en apart and check out your thoughts. proud to be part of the xj collective love xj, dam them for stop making them, and dam them for making us have to fix them. we shall have one of the best machines ever made. long live XJ.
