Why brake divider if only one disc?

My PO put on a lower and narrower set of sports bars. It looks good and he did an ok job, other than the handles are a cheapo foamy stuff, and he didn't do much to adjust the line length. Shouldn't matter much for electric, but the brake line to the front has a bad S in it and its original (25+ years old!).

So I want to replace the front brake lines this summer some time, and that means buying a new length for the new bars.

The line goes to a divider where I guess you could split the line for two discs. If you are replacing the line can you skip this component and simply buy the correct length line and go straight from master cyclinder to brakes??

    Thanks.

I had a similar issue of excess length when I swapped my maxim bars for seca bars.

If your current setup does not have the divider, then don't incorporate one.

Did you find somewhere that sells kits online, or a local vendor who makes custom lines? If the later, then simply get a steal braided line cut to fit... if the bike is there they can even pull through and measure on the bike with the custom routing. MAKE SURE you account for excess required for full lock to lock motion.

I have a divider, but don't have plans to put on a second disc (though if the bike runs good this summer I may get a better rotor from Chacal next winter).

I want to replace line-divider-line, with one line. Why not, right? Or am I missing some functionality about the divider.

When I was 16 I tried to replace the pads on this terribly old Nissan and my dad had to step in and bail me out mid project. Paranoid now!

If you've got the elbow (not really a divider) between the lines, then yes that can be discarded and you can go with one long line to the caliper. Many of us have done this. The stock length for a single line is around 42", but with your new bars you'll have to do a measurement to find out what you'll need.

You can bypass the divider but, as Woot pointed out, you have to account for full travel of the fork as well as swing.

Thanks guys - that's a good one to know.
I guess I'll use a bit of nylon rope to mock up a run and measure that.

I wonder if Chacal cuts custom lengths...

If you happen to have some cable sheathing to put on that nylon rope it will simulate the stiffness better... alternatively 1/2 hosing works

I would just get a custom-made UPPER from chacal and leave the lower section stock. As a matter of fact, it's EXACTLY what I'm going to do as I'm in the same situation, and I'm upgrading to SS lines.

Fitz - I gotta ask why would you bother only upgrading 1/2 the brake line? It essentially nullifies the practical benefit of switching to SS lines.
The elbow was just placed there for manufacturing reasons, nothing practical. It's essentially useless, and easily removed.
