Well, after the last fiasco of the snapped intake manifold bolts, my brother and I finally managed to get eveything all put together today. We still had time before I needed to head out, so I attempted to start up the bike, and it wouldn't start. Then I remembered the choke, and it started up right away! It settled down to a nice idle around 1200 rpm, and I couldn't be happier.

However, I still have a few nagging problems, I still am afraid to run the bike off the main tank currently because the floats on carbs 2 and 3 still won't always stop the fuel flow. The valves and seats are new parts from Chacal, the floats float at the same level when placed in a bucket of gas, and the float shafts are nice and smooth. If I can tap them hard enough, the occasionally will stop, but I can't tap them while on the bike. If anyone has any ideas, I could definitely use them!

My second problem is a turn signal problem, and I think i will probably need those to pass my inspection, despite how few people I actually see using them anymore. My left signal is very, very slow to blink, and occasionally stops. My right signal will not blink at all, it stays on all the time if I turn it on.

I appreciate all the info from you guys, I know there is no way I could have put it back together and have it running so great without this site!

Check you have the right amp bulbs all round, if so it's probably the relay, easy to get & cheap.
You might find that the floats will work ok when the bike is runnig & vibrating, try it.

Thanks Wiz, I'll have a look at the bulbs in the morning. I also noticed while searching the site, a few posts recommended that the engine should be running while checking the signals, I did my check before starting the bike. I probably need to tear the switch housing apart as well, the switch action seems a bit gummy.

For the floats, that sounds like a good idea, let the bike do the vibration. Work smarter, not harder! However, if they still do not stop the fuel, what would the consequences be? I know if the bike isn't running, that fuel can get into the crankcase, but what if it's running?

If the bike is running the float valves will be open to some degree, depends on the revs what the fuel demand is.

Today was a pretty good day! You were correct Wiz, floats seemed to be doing their job this time, and only overflowing once. I checked all the bulbs, they were correct, so I started the bike, and all my signal problems went away!

I started the tuning process, and boy was it backfiring today. I got my carbs all synched, and began colortuning. The engine was now pretty smooth, and no backfiring. I don't know what the cause is yet, but I could only get one cylinder to have an orange flame, all the others were blue all the time, no matter how lean or rich the mixture screws were.

After a bit of fiddling around, I lost cylinder one. I ended up removing the carbs and finding some crud blocking the primary jet. I guess I must have missed while cleaning the carbs, and it worked it's way loose and plugged up the port. Put the bike back together, and got a nice blue flame in cyl 1.

I finally went out for a spin around the building, and things were sounding great. I came back in and noticed that cyl 4 was a bit cooler than the rest. Put in the colortune, and no combustion on 4 now, just spark. it was starting to get late so I put everything back up. I guess I will be pulling the carbs AGAIN!!! I guess I need to clean and clean again!
