What's plug chopping?

    I've heard about plug chopping, but i dont kow what it is and how you do it, I think I want to do it to my cb750c...

    It is a way of getting a snapshot of how each cylinder is performing, by the condition of the plug.
    You ride to town & back, just before you get to your barn, hit the kill switch & coast to your work station, where you pull the plugs & post a picture for us all to see.

    The etymology (origin of the word) seems to be that you "chop" the ignition after running at a certain rev range. This gives you a picture of the state of your mixture at those revs. If you let the engine return to idle before switching off, you will get a false reading.

    This is an acurate definition, I can't ad to it.
    Functionally, you want to know if your carbs are too lean or rich at mid throttle, you run the bike up the road for a few minutes as normal, pull in the clutch, then chop or kill the engine suddenly using the engine kill switch. Coast to the side into a safe parking place, then take out each plug and have a look it's tip to see the condition, and compare them to the photos in most manuals, and or what some of the redliners here have written. 8)
