Hey folks I just got my tank painted as my belated birthday gift.

How do you polish your tank and keep the scratches at bay?

There is a picture in my gallery. I would show it off but I can't get the link to show in my message.

I have to keep this puppy clean and shiny. 8)

Surely whoever did that fantastic art work would tell you how to look after it.

Is that in the paint or did you shine it up to a mirror finish? :)

Mine is primer OD green and no polish is necessary...

Invest in someone doing a clear coat professionally . A local paint shop is going to sling clear on my paint I should have to never shine or wax it . Iwas told a uriethane clear coat will last a long time and protect against gas and oil

I am sure that tank has a few coats of clear on it. Even with clear you still will want to polish and keep it waxed tp help protect it. I am in need of the same type of info I had mine painted last year and I left my keys on the belt clip and got a light scratch in the clear so i grabbed some polishing compound now i have no big scratch but very very light swirls in the area and need to get them buffed out.

    Yes it was clear coated..

I had the paint done and then took it to an autobody shop and they coated it for me. But with all things there will be scratches in the clear and i was wondering how to get and keep them out. And just wondered if anyone waxed their tank to just give it a bit more scratch protection?

Use a good carnauba wax, spend the money, the bottle or tub will last forever.
Avoid any wax with silicon, it actually softeness the paint.
I would wait at least 2 weeks for the paint to cure before polishing.
Scratches, polishing compound should take most out, why 85max has swirls I don't know.
Use cotton to apply and remove, stay away from synthetics.
If you use a buffer lambs wool is prefered.

I found a system at Schucks/Kragen that has 2 compounds and a few strips of very fine sandpaper. The tank on my S Wing looked like it had been through the war. This stuff took it all out with very little effort. It's called QUIXX. You can also look it up on the web. As long s the scratches don't go all the way through the paint to the metal this stuff will work as is. If it goes through to the metal use touch up paint and then QUIXX.

The before/after pics. speak for themselves and are located in my gallery.

Hound I don't knwo why there are light swirls either besides I don't know what I am doing LOL. I prob pressed too hard or something I used a meguires product that I had in the shed. It wasn't too long after it was painted so maybe it just wasn't fully hardened. You can't see them unless you really look but I know they are thier so it bugs me.

There is a product called 'Swirl Mark Remover'...I haven't used any in a while so I forgot where I bought it. Probably Checker or Auto Zone.
