After I did the LED taillight mod, I seem to be having an issue with my turn signals. I don't know if this is related(I don't see how), or if it's a coincidence. But both rear signals fail to come on. I replaced both bulbs, and the one side worked once, then both failed again. When I turn on the signal, the front bulb comes on steady, but no rear.

So what is going on here? I checked the power and ground going to each rear signal, and they both read ok. Is this somehow related to the taillight?

Did you swap out the signal relay for an electronic type? The LED's don't draw enough current to trip the thermal type relays.

No no, I didn't touch the turn signals. They are still all normal bulbs. Only the tail/stop light was replaced. That's why I'm confused...

Well - standard troubleshooting here - what happens if you put regular bulbs back into the taillights?

Can't see how they're related - completely seperate circuits....

You mean flasher relay(send currnt to signals) don't ya.It sits under tank black square with 3 or 4 prongs says nippon on it.I had one go hard to track em down. But i was told pep boys has them.I got one at auto zone the amps are a bit high but seems to work. The flasher relay is the thing that goes ent ent ent when you switc on your signals. If you dont hear it clickish ent ent, that may be your problem.

My PO laid the bike down right side and broke the front light. He tacked it back on with tape. I replaced it with an aftermarket stem/light and saw the same symptom - flashers are on solid when tripped. Mine would flash with a little throttle but go solid again at idle. I put the old light back on (with tape - sigh) and now everything works again.

I suggest that you get out your multimeter and check the resistance of the old analog assembly compared to your new LED assembly and then add some resistors until they are close to the same.

I wish I could tell you this was the answer - but it's really just a suggestion.

    Good luck,

    Jim

Problem solved. Turns out it was coincidence. The ground solder joints seperated on both rear signals. I suppose that's to be expected(same time), since they were put on at the same time. I got voltage readings, because I was pushing on the terminal just right with the multimeter.

    All is good now.

When I have a hair-pulling, bad-word shouting, electrical trouble-shooting issue to contend with ... I have to alert The Department of Homeland Security! They raise the treat level to Orange. (Sometimes Red)

I had fun this weekend myself with a bad ground on my right flasher. That took five hours and ended up with a whole new ground line run inside the posts. I think I need to find the PO again and bring a bat along...

Sounds like a weekend of ground checks is in order. Easy on the PO, they usually are half the issue being ignorant of the problem to begin with. Might make you feel a little better though. (I didn't hear anything officer)

Guess what - my horn bleating unless above idle was a bad ground.

I have a feeling I'll be unwinding a couple spools of ground wire this winter...
