I got broken into a few days ago and I live in the lowest crime rate part of town. I guess I had my guard down and was just thinking just before this happened that I should beef up the locks on the garage. I had a good thought but didn't make it happen soon enough.
The jerks stole some of my tools and other things. The garage looked like there was a tornado inside. Parts pulled out of shelves, boxes opened and dumped on the floor. My carbs were on the work bench. They are spred oll over. This is truely the result of this bad economy and brings out the worst in people to not only steal but trash a garage that they know the owner is a car and motorcyle person. The cops said there are alot of garage breakins this time of year. So with the warmer weather coming, make sure you keep your security up and don't let your guard down for a minute. I installed a new dead bolt lock and added a storm door with a small dead bolt also. I'm also concidering getting an alarm company to come out and install an alarm system.
I'll be carefully cleaing up for the next two weeks. Those small carb parts are everywhere. This is such a bummer

sorry to hear that man. good luck getting it back together. unfortunately, this is probably going to happen a lot in the not too distant future all over the country. some idiot last week robbed two banks 9 blocks from each other within an hour in Center City Philthadelphia where I work. Aside from the security system, invest in a shotgun and a large dog.

Oh that sucks! Did you call the police and file a report?

This past fall there was a rash of garage break-ins in my neighborhood, bastards were brave and were breaking into garages in the middle of day. I had a lawn mower stolen. When the police came out they said that everyone who files a report helps them narrow down the suspects, especially if there are serial or ID numbers on items stolen that they can use later.

I got broken into last year. It definitely sucks a lot.
I ended up installing cameras on the outside of my house that record on my computer, and over a kilowatt of exterior lighting.

    Thanks

I called the cops. They wouldn't even come out. I told them I had over 7500 stolen in tools and property. I pleaed with the 911 dispatcher to send a car over. These guys were pros. They broke in and taped cardboard over the window above my service door. They then went through everything. I have over the years collected alot of stuff so I put laundry cabinets up around the inside of my garage. When my Dad passed away in 1988 he gave me alot of his stuff. Tools , Fishing Tackle and a whole bunch of other things. I'm not a fisherman but I would go if asked. These dudes pulled everything down and threw it on the floor. My pick up truck (I don't drive it in the winter time) Just fits front to rear. They got up on the hood and walked across and dented it and scratched it. When they got on the other side to get to those cabinets the jerk pulled out some things and threw them across the roof scratching that all up. My truck is a 1995 F-250 Deisel. Its in mint condition and it only sees the road when I pull a trailer. I paid alot for it when it was new so I decided to keep it nice and that would be the last heavy duty truck I would ever buy. It has 68,000 on the clock. So for a Deisel truck it is not even broke in yet. It should go over 250,000 miles and could last me another 15 years if I could keep it up and not get into and accident. So now its all screwed over and its got to go to the body shop. You never seem to get as good of paint like the factory finish.
So after doing my poor truck in the jackass took a major dump on the flor. That was so discusting I almost threw up. The dude left a pile at least 4 -5 lbs. Wiped his back side and threw the paper towels under my truck. Now I thought who in the hell would do this to me????? In any case the cops called me on Friday night and asked if they could get a copy of what was missing. An officer showed up and got the list and looked over my garage. I told him he was the first officer to show up after what had happened. He couldn't beleive it. The dispatcher just gave me a case number and some forms would show up in a few days. He told me to call the mayor's office and complain. So after the officer left they called me back and told me they knew who had taken my stuff and an under cover officer was involved. I thought THIS IS GREAT. Well he called back and told me that the team was going to go in with an search warrant and get all the stolen property back and call me on Saturday afternoon. I got the call and the officer told me before they could get in there the dude took the tools and split. The people in the house confirmed that the items I had lost were in that guys posession. So he took off and the cops are still looking for him at this point. So I was let down and have been waiting for the phone to ring ever since. I'm sure my tools are gone by now. I totaly blows to get ripped off like that. I just wanted every one here to protect your self and get extra locks on your stuff. I know its hard to lock every thing up but you had better or you personal things will vanish in seconds and the cops won't do anything about it other then tell you to call your insurance company with a case number. I hope they catch this guy or group and put them in the slammer for a few years. They are animals and should be treated as such. Avoid all this if you can.

    Thanks for your support.

I'm not sure I want to meet the person(s) who robs a place, then going beyond that takes some sort of perverse pleasure in taking a dump on your garage floor. That's sub-human.

My sympathies MN...what a disaster. Now that you tell us the rest of the story, Bill's comment is really ironic.

I'm so sorry to hear about that! I sent you that message before I had a chance to read this. Take your time getting stuff back together. Hope things turn out well and they nab the guy. Too bad you can't razor wire the garage...I like the electric fence idea, flash!

And who the hell takes a dump on the floor!?!?!?! That's just plain disgusting! I can't even begin to decribe how ticked off that makes ME, let alone you...I'm off to quietly swear in the corner....grrr

Sorry to hear that. Once we start killing these douchbags right where they stand this will cease.

Here locally (just this past weekend) a pizza delivery guy capped a scumbag who tried to rob him. I absolutely LOVE to hear those kinds of stories. I hope to hear lots more of them as time goes by...

Sorry to hear about your burglary and vandalism. Are any of your tools or missing items particularly unique? If so, check the local pawn shops (if there are any) for your stuff.

That is freakin awful, but it doesn't supprize me one bit. When I was building my house last year, some copper theifs hit me. I did all of my electrical work, so that pissed me off even more. They stole every wire that was within 20ft of the crawlspace door. But the dumb A$$ESS left the wire that ran to my oven, and dryer, and they were 6 and 8 ga copper. They even stole about 20' of phone line, like they could get anything for that. I had worked my butt off stapling all that wire to the floor joists, and they cut the wire on each side of the staples so the wouldn't have to pull them out. Then they broke into the house which I had locked up, (one window was unlocked, and I didn't know it) and stole a drop cord. They left a paint sprayer, sander, and some more tools, but they did get my finish nailer.
The cops said it was someone who didn't know what they were doing, and they had seen about the same thing at another house a few miles from mine.

Any way, my heat and air guy told me to be glad we hadn't put the ducts in yet. He said I wouldn't believe how many houses have to have the ducts replaced because someone broke in and pissed in them.

Sorry to hear about it man... I wish you could catch the guy before the cops do.

Hey Turkey... I can sympathize. I built I house a few years back and did all the wiring myself, like you, and then some douchbag cut my electrical panel out of the wall. Of course I had to re-wire everything... myself.

We will all be better off when all of these knuckle dragging sub-humans are eliminated from the gene pool.

Sorry to be blunt, but you all know its the truth.

The last I heard for the cops was they know who the dude is and his little gang of thugs. He's a master burgular and he has kids break into garages and if they see any good sutff they call him and he comes over to get the "good stuff". From what I understand the cops have an inside "informant" and are trying to bust this guy big time. He's been caught in the past for a felony possession of a fire arm amongest other things. Now I'm thinking great now all the little thugs know I've got a lifetime of tools and equipment I use for personal as well as business.
I have installed a motion sensor and a baby monitor. I can't sleep now. I'm afraid of two things here. First their coming back at some point. The second I'm going to get thrown in jail for killing them with my shot gun. I keep it loaded with 12ga magnum slugs. So my life as a free man has ended bewteen trying to protect my property and the laws that protect these animals. Even if they were breaking in and I called the cops they are so busy writing speeding tickets and crap like that they will take their sweet time getting here. They always go for the easy money. So I say don't get a ticket for any infraction of the law and don't help pay for any of their cop BS so they come down hard on these little jerks.
I wish there was a place on this planet that everyone was normal and there was no worries about being robbed blind. When I was a kid we never locked our doors, left the keys in the car. You could leave your bike out fromt of your house and nothing never happened. That was the 60's and early 70's. Today you better had not left anything not lag bolted and chained down or it will vanish. This sucks.
I was at the auto parts store today. The tool isle was roped off. I had never seen this before. The clerk told me if he was not watching the theives would load there pockets on the tools and walk out. You see there is no punishment for what thse guys do. So the cops show up and they haul them down to the station. They take their picture and finger print them BIG DEAL. Next you know they are back out on the street doing it again. Back in the day if I did something like that my dad would have his foot so far up my ass I'd have to open my mouth so he could tie his shoe. I'm tellin ya what have we become. The criminals get off and the people who are responsible and do the right thing own a home, raise family, pay taxes and aquire posessions and wealth get screwed.

Hey Idea when the cops catch the thugs ask him if you can rub thier noses in a pile of crap . so they won't do it again. I have heard some dog owners do that to thier dogs. but I think that is wrong to do . a dog does not know better you have to show the dog where to crap . these guys know better ( I hope, if not I would hate to see thier house,) but choose to do it anyways as if they were saying " CATCH US IF YOU CAN" so to speak

MN another idea is to waterboard them . I believe bush and cheney made it legal since its really not torture.

As Ron White says "You can't fix stupid"
Its all too true. Some laws seem to throw "survival of the fittest" right out the window and substitute "survival of everyone, at the cost of the taxpayers time, money, and sanity" ;)

mn-maxim, it is truely sad those bastards stole more than physical possessions from yuo, instead they took your sense of security, sanity, and they threw a ton of weight on your mind. I'm really afraid my cousin is going to turn into an animal like this, he sold my go cart on me, then engine didn't run, but were were going to put his atv engine on it and stuff, he also sold my gamecube on me, he doesnt even have basic tv, so i figured this could keep him busy so he doesnt do stupid stuff. He steals from walmart all the time, he thinks its fun, he'll walk out with a different pair of jeans and shoes on, and dvd's and xbox stuf in his pockets, I dont take him anywhere cuz he's so annoying, and i only have him work on my bike with me as a last resort cuz he gets sooo distrated and eventually the garage looks like a hurricane has gone through it He doesnt seem to realize he's 18 yet and has responsibilities. He wont think about his future until the day after he graduates, he got an 11 on his act, and says who cares, i didnt try, but he dosnt realize he's a dumbass for not trying. He used to have a car, but he got a speeding ticket, didnt pa it, and got his licens suspended, now he has his license, all he needs to do is register and insure his car and he can drive, but no, we have to drive him everywhere. his mom, my aunt, is an irresponsible alcoholic, she did have a bright future ahead of her, michigan bean queen, state FFA officer, but lyle was an accident, and her life tooka dump ever since. Yep. Sorry for ranting, but that may be the basic bio of all those criminals. They just need to be loved, and have a boot shoved uptheir ass.

watch the p's and q's scooter. lol

Your cousin needs TOUGH LOVE. next time he steals from you call the cops. talking won't help and beating him to a pulp won't either. when he goes to court ask the judge to give him a years worth of community service. and if he fails the community service they should send him to a jail cell solitary would work good for a week .

they start out with petty theft and once they get the confidence ( by not getting caught) they try jacking bigger and better stuff.

    just a thought.

If that were me and I had the chance I would wack the person(s) upside the head once with every tool/item they took and then I would finish by putting my size 11 boot up their a$$ to prevent them from taking a dump until they had it surgically removed!

My Mom is 67 years old. As a first grader her parents only had one car. My grandfather had to drive to work early and the school bus didn't come out to her house. So he took her to school at 7 am and she set on the school's front steps until the staff arrived at 8 am. After school the city buses had begun running and she rode home by herself on the city bus. No on ever bothered her.

You would be an insane parent to do that in today's world. 67 years is a long time, but not in the life of a nation. With all our advances, we have nonetheless lost or left behind some of our most important things

    EDIT:
It was a comment better kept to myself.
I was more thinking of what the future holds rather then blaming him for what's already happened.

yeah is the new guys fault so what if hes only been in office 51 days its all his fault.. lets blame obama .

its more convienant than placing the blame on the real source of our problems.

    EDIT:

no one can predict the future and place blame on something that hasn't happened yet , give the man a chance to do something before condemning him. no one man can fix this mess and it wiill take decades to fix not 51 days.

    Thats all I am saying.

It doesn't matter who's in office on the Federal level. This is a city and state problem. If there is no concequence for what the punk criminals do. I'm just saying a ride to the police station and getiing finger printed and a picture taken is not enough.

    Mn Maxims,
Just read your post. That's a shame what happened with your stuff. I know you take pride in your shop and all of your vehicles, etc and it shows in your work. I am just sick while reading about it. It happens too often nowadays. It seems to getting worse uphere too. I guess the meth/crack heads are getting desperate and will do just about anything to get a fix, no matter who they will target.
I have a police scanner on all the time in the shop while I work and can't believe the stuff that happens, even in broad daylight!! I am thinking of getting some video equipment installed, so atleast I can get footage of anyone entering my shop/home when I'm gone. My little brother installs close curcuit equipment for a living, so he knows just how to rig stuff in the right places. Even having a few of those fake cameras may detour the would-be thugs to go elsewhere?
Sorry to read about your loss. >PD<

I find it unfortunate how many lives across America parallel this in some way(s). As in that case, a lot of the time people are not ready for a child or -think- they are and are not. I'm young myself, and I gotta admit I do feel the instinct to pass on my genes, but that's left over in us from back when marriage was ~14, children by 20, and you're dead by 30. I'm horrified at the number of people under 24 having children today, not just for them and the life they won't have but for the life their child (will)won't have... How the kid gets raised will have tremendous effect on what kind of person they will become. Then they raise their kids, how is that going to turn out? Sadly there is no way to MAKE everyone an intelligent and responsible parent overnight.

I wish I had experienced that world in the 60's-70's when you could trust your neighbor, when everyone had morals and character, cared a bit about his fellow man instead of always putting the self first. Seemed like the kids of that generation turned out right. WTH Happened to my generation and later ones? I disown most of my age group peers.

It seems your rant threw me into one, somewhat off topic, but I'll simply conclude that I know too many people whose lives could have been so much better if everyone involved had developed a little better. I find that it always comes back to money. Our money costs money, that's why there's never enough. For anyone. Ever. (except the guys that own the money that loan it to the government with interest)

And MN-, I really hope you get your stuff back, and hopefully can seek litigation, incl. emotional damages for cleaning up the mess.
