I have found a set of shocks off of a sportster and i was wondering if they will work on my 1985 700 Maxim? I want to lower the back just a little. These shocks are only 50 bucks.

If the shock has the same mounts eyes it should work . question how long are your stock shocks? Don'r drop too much your bike will most likely bottom out

I have a single( monoshock ) shock on my xs400j want to lower the rear about 1.5" my stock shocks ar 13 3/4 " gonna be hard to find a shock thats 12"

I found a guy who chops shocks as a business but he says its impossible to do my shock as it is designed. maybe I will try to find a dirt bike mono shock and send it to him to chop for me.

Harley shocks have larger eyes , the width of the eye and diameter of the mounting hole is much larger. The spring rate is much strongeralso. Remember that a Harley is much heavier that your Maxim, It takes more spring pressure to hold it up. I purchased a pair for a project and had to modify the eyes and change the springs. You can try them but be prepaired to do some work on them, bettef off finding the right pair.

I bought some Harley shocks off ebay that are 10.5" eye to eye, and with a few mods I got them on fine. I had to replace the metal sleeves inside the rubber grommets, as the stock sleeves were a hair too small to fit on my stock shock studs. Half inch copper water line worked perfectly. I also had to shave the right bottom shock eye to get a good fit in the U shaped bracket on the swing arm. Other than that, they fit sweet.
