So I have a small hole on the underside of the back of my frame. See pic

It is small, about the size of a pebble (can't think of anything else to compare it to right off hand...) and doesn't look rusted around the hole, although it is not close to being perfectly circular. The paint is in alright shape all the way around the hole so I'm not sure how it managed to get there. There is no damage near it either so I don't think it was a puncture hole which brings me back to rust...I think. Any thoughts?

More importantly, how can I fix this? Can I just grab the welder and tack it up or should I use something like JB Weld for some reason? I don't think this will make the bike structurally unsafe but I don't know. Oh wizards of the XJ forum, please point me in the right direction. I can post an actual picture of the hole sometime tomorrow if its necessary.
    Thanks!

JD, as I understand it, that is there to allow water to drain out of the frame.
I'll repeat your mantra to encourage the XJ gods to answer your question...

That's a drain hole incase you get water inside the frame. I think it was Desert Rat who had his frame freeze with water in it and it split the frame rail. Ice does have some power and will wreck the frame tubes.

Mother nature didn't like the shape of my frame, so she changed it. Oh well. Take advantage of that drain hole. Pay special attention to your bike when you park it for any length of time in cold temps. I kept mine up on the center stand. Even if I had a drain hole, the water would have collected under the lower engine mounts, not back by the swing arm.

Do you have a hole on both sides of the bike?

Nope, just one side. Thought that was odd. And not circular. Looked like a poke-hole almost.
