how do you like the riding position on your XJ?

    hey all,

    been riding my xj750 for a little bit now, getting more comfortable around town & side roads, and took it on the highway (65-70mph) for the 1st time tonight. I felt like I was kinda caught between a crotch rocket and a cruiser riding position, and didn't quite feel comfortable. The seat kept sliding me forward to the tank, and my knees end up forward of my feet, causing discomfort in my boots binding.....

    What can I do to chop the seat and improve my ride, and do many of you use a shield to reduce the wind resistance? ultimately I'd like to chop the back end and lower the stance a bit, but I'm not quite ready to start that endeavor! :D

    Theres another called "2 hour seat shave" or something of that nature that goes into quite a bit more detail then I was able to.

    The hardest part of the process is making that first cut...after that it's easy as long as you have your lines drawn well.

    Restretching the cover takes some patience but is doable, several people here have had very nice results with it.

    The foot pegs have 5 position -- front / back -- adjustments.
    Both shift lever and brake pedal are infinately adjustable for bedal height.
    There are forward control kits available / adaptable.

    The handlebars are a standard diameter and dozens of really cool shapes are available for style and comfort.

    The easiest way to reform the seat pattern is to shape it with a pneumatic dual-action sander and # 36 Grit sand paper. After reshaping -- smooth-out the area reshaped with # 80 .

    Pardon my ignorance, but is adjusting the foot pegs as easy as justloosening the bolts and moving them (Its been a long day, I really don't wanna go outside and fiddle around to find out)

    I don't know about on a seca but on a maxim they are fixed. Or at least on a 650 maxim.

    Foot pegs on the 750 appear to be fixed as well.

    Unless there are some hidden mounting points I'm not able to see

    My bikes the '83 750 Max. The bolt that holds the rider's footpegs, loosens and slides forward or back ... depending on where you want it placed. Its combined with the lever pivot. Therefore, repositioning the peg fwd or back means a pedal height adjustment goes along with the tweak. After finding the forward or back comfortable riding position ... you have to height adjust the shifter and brake pedal to suit you, too.

    Thanks Rick, you are right, on my xj750, the foot pegs are adjustable, and I put em as far forward as they would go. moved em about an inch or two at most, but it's a start! [​IMG]

    There's also a couple threads about fabricating forward controls, should be able to do a search for "forward controls" and pull some stuff up on it.
