I'm generally one to let the 'experts' maintain my vehicles but most of them don't want to touch a bike as old as ours. Since I like my bike and don't want to spend a bunch of money to get a new(er) one, I figured I'd have to take care of it myself.

I haven't done anything to speak of to my bike since I got it last summer. Since I put 2000 trouble free miles on it last year, I planned to do an oil change. I figure since I need to do that I would also order some other stuff like an in-line fuel filter, an air filter, and a new fuse box from Chacal at the same time.

I opened the air filter cover to see whether I had a paper or foam air filter and the cover of the fuse box fell off and what I saw is in the picture. Notice that not only did they use in-line fuses when the clips broke off, they even soldered the bottom fuse to the remaining clips! 8O

As I said, ignorance is bliss, now I don't dare ride any great distance until I get that fuse box replaced! I'll be placing that order tonite!

Yeah thats not a great thing to find. That is almost as bad as when I went down to rewire my house from the old screw in fuses to the breakers. I found 30am fuses in every hole!!! with the old 14Ga. friction tape wire and no junction boxes or wire nuts anywhere just friction tape. But at least now you know and can get it sorted so you can have some more trouble free miles.

Looks like we must have had similar POs! My bike also had inline fuses spliced in, and poorly soldered. I replaced the whole thing today with a nice unit from Chacal, and must say it looks much better! The new fuse box also took care of my intermittent turn signals!

It's an easy fix that can only help!
