I bought a set of carbs for my 85 XJ700. I bought them from a salvage company in Flordia, they dont seem to fit. Someone has replaced the tops with chrome ones. I know I need Hitachi Carbs but there are no identifying marks I can see. Can someone help? maybe some measurements I can do? thanks ANYTHING will help.

you didnt' perhaps get a set of mikuni carbs that go on the 85 xj700X did you? mine have chrome hats on them stock. the air heads got hitachi's and the liquid cooled models got mikuni's in 85'-86'. They should say right on the sides of the carbs what make they are. Do you have your original set to compare them to or are you rebuilding a basket case in which you didn't have any at all?

    Hey dude
What do the tops look like? My 83 750 has chrome tops and I'm sure they are stock. Did you remove the rubber grommets thet are attached to your air filter box? It's a giant pain in the back tire to bolt on the carbs with those rubber demons in place. Hitachi carbs ignition systems were used by yamaha and honda through the eighties so there should be a ton of them around. Your right there no identifying marks on them, just the hitachi logo.

The circular design is the Hitachi symbol. Based on that, as long as they shipped the right size, these should be the right carbs. There were different millimeter designations.

    Pictures would really help.

Do you have the boots in the right postiton? Boots 1 and 4 have a little bend to them that lines them up with the carbs. It should kind of be like this:

    1 2 3 4
    \ \ | | | | / /

    Its worth a check anyway
