I have been fixing up a 1982 XV750 over the winter that I got for $600 with a bad starter motor. I recently picked up a 1980 XS400 that I thought I might be able to salvage some parts off of for the XV750 which lead me to this forum. I have found through some other forums that my original plan won't work, but I still thought I would join to see what else I can learn.

The bike in the bottom pic (which I assume is the 750) is a Virago, not a maxim :S

You are all right. I always get the model numbers confused and mixed up. It is an XV750 now an XJ750. Still, I came here to find out more about the XS400 because not much seems to be out there about it.

Check out yamahaclub.com, go to the "classics" section. Lots of helpful people with xs400s over there

If it's an 80's Yammy on two wheels, there's a good chance that someone on this forum knows something about it :-D
