    After fishing out chunks of chain guide, I developed an oil leak from disturbing the 30 year old cover plate gasket.

    I got a new gasket from Len and put it on. Since I had the oil drained, I attacked the oil filter bolt one final time. I FINALLY got that bastard loose and replaced my oil filter. I feel so much better.

    I don't plan on touching the oil system for several thousand miles now.
