Here's a few pics of my bike as it sits, 09/06/08.
Also here's a short video walkaround with sound.
The original page showing the many incarnations and build of this bike is below... enjoy.

i posted a thread asking a question about your bike... guess you missed it or something. Anyway, did you preheat your metal before welding or just go at it?

wow that bike is really something, you ought to paint all the rust spots tho, unless rust is the look you're going for, but its really nice.

I did not preheat the steel. I have only preheated when welding aluminum. I know there are types of steel that require it, but this is not one.

I also am in the "stock jets with pods army", with open exhaust too. 8000ish miles and going strong. Part of the reason for making a video was to show the purists and non believers that it can be done, without compromising performance. No missing, no backfiring, no holes in the pistons, burnt valves--- just strong and smooth 100% of the time. Take that, doubters...

what did you use for exhaust tubing? is it 4 pipes all the way, or did you collect and re-split?

    Love it!
So what if God owns a Harley check out Death's XJ
If she doesn't have a name can I suggest 'Armegedon'
If you have a pale complexion I wouldn't ride near the retirement village.
    Those headlights effective?

Exhaust is 1 1/2" tube I bought out the side door of a muffler shop. 4 pipes, no collector. The headlights are great, 55 watt each. No problem seeing, in fact I had to point them down a bit, my buddys wouldnt let me ride behind them at night for the brightness. NO hi-lo though.

Looks great! I'm not sure about the spike strip on the tank, but that's just me... One thing you might consider is picking up some plain crank covers to get rid of the "YAMAHA YICS" badging.

And I'm lovin' that dual-sport tire on the rear. Must give a nice "thrum" on the highway.

The rear tire is a on/off road tire Bridgestone Trail Wing. It really dosent make much noise or cause any problems, it WAS designed for road use.

any way we can get a pic inside that ammo can? I'm going to be running something like that on my bike and want to see how you went about it.

You know, normally I'm not into chopped bikes but something about yours really speaks to me. It's frigging cool. Replies like "Armageddon" and "Don't ride near the retirement village" are spot-on. I love it.

I especially like the asymmetry- the pipes on one side, and the ammo box on the other. Keep the rust, replace the "YICS" covers and keep rolling it. :)

It's 8" out, 1" up, stock rake. She's in hibernation for the winter, behind a bunch of crap in the garage, come spring I can shoot the inside of the box. Thanks for the kind words everyone, I'm currently under 6" of snow, dying for a 80 degree day--- right now it's 11.

Is that a 30 cal or 50 cal ammo can? Do you have your battery in there as well as the brain box?

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure what caliber ammo the can is from, but the battery fits pretty perfect in there, as well as the igniter, fusebox. I have the regulator mounted outside for cooling purposes. I got the box for $5 at the local surplus store. I'm thinking of painting it, but it's getting warmer, and just wanna ride.

Yeah it's a 30 cal I think, cuz I bought one and started putting it together and you're right everything fits perfectly. I 'm going to mount mine on the right side because my license plate and tail light are on the left.

So, is that a tree house back there behind your bike? How did you....just kidding. LOL
Those pipes rock! Sounds good at idle, but I don't think I would enjoy them out on the open road however (that's just me) I really like what you did with it and I'm sure it turns some heads when your out and about.

Thanks guys. Yeh the treehouse is pretty awesome, 2 level, the top one is about 15ft from the ground, my boy loves it.

Here's a pic of what I've done to the bike over the past couple days. Just a little paint.

It is a fact that your XJ was one of the first I seen on youtube when I was scoping out the one I currently own... I was impressed then. I was reluctant to accept what you were doing to it when I seen the gallery with the frame mods in progress... but I should have known you'd come out on the other end with something inventive and amazing. Kudos, sir!

I'm imagining fire coming up out of your pipes, but that might not be a bonus if you're sitting on it. Really wild.

HELLUVA scooter, from one end to the other!!! Myself, the spikes on the tank was the first thing I noticed and liked. I just know it wasn't blind dumb luck, so any tips on how it runs so well without rejetting for the believers in the audience...

They just mount on a piece of flat steel stock attached to what used to be the mounting point for the clocks.

I don't care, nor do i need credit. Make your bike awesome however you see fit.

edit-- just realized the lights were in the old position in these pics. Sorry I thought you were referring to them up in the "normal position".

When they were attached to the forks, they were connected with a flat piece through the bolt securing the forks to the trees.

Spot on!! - it looks like you could kill yourself just by getting on it!
I was going to fit a couple of ammo cases the same as those but decided they were too small to put much in anyway... They do a much better job as elec/battery box.
    - don't those pipes fill up in the rain?
