I'm rewiring my new dash lights after removing the "computer" from an 81 Seca XJ750.
I'm having an issue where my neutral and indicator dash lights only come on when the bike is in gear. I haven't fired it up yet as the tank is off.
Has anyone who's done this mod experienced this?

Neutral light shuts off when I pull in the clutch also...
    Something is backwards somewhere.

Can you draw up a diagram of what your wiring now looks like? I've not done this mod but I'm curious to know what you have done and what the problem might be.

What color wires do you have going to the N light? If I'm not mistaken - it should be brown (12V) and light blue (which goes to a relay and finally to ground through the neutral switch).

Those are the wires I'm using.
I'm no longing using the LCD panel warnings/sensors so maybe I've disrupted a circuit somewhere.
I should have the tank back on later tonight and I'm hoping that will help me trouble shoot the situation.
    I'll let you know.
I just wondered if someone else had done the conversion and experienced this so as to avoid unnecessary hair loss as aging is doing a fine enough job at that.

I got rid of my computer monitor last year and just labeled all the neccessary wires that I needed. You need a wiring diagram for your bike to be able to get the right colored wires to label before removing the stock speedo/tach unit.
I am now running just a speedometer (no tach), high beam light, signal lite indicator, and nuetral light indicator. I use LEDs for the indicators and made my own mount for them just below the speedometer.
I made sure I labeled all the wires I wasn't going to use just incase I plan to add something later, like a tach. That way I have the wires I need and don't have to go searching for the right colors.
This is my speedomter (off of a CB350 Honda) and indicator lights in a homemade bracket:

    Thanks for all the responses.
I have the wiring diagram from my Haynes manual and I also labeled everything as I disassembled it.
I thought everything was wired as it should be but obviously not.
My LED lights look similiar to yours PainterD, however I am hoping to somehow rig up a low fuel light or gauge as my old instrument panel worked fine.
Adding to my confusion is the fact that I am making too many changes/mods at once and because I've had everything off of the bike, I haven't been testing the new stuff as it's completed.
It makes it a little harder to troubleshoot but I'll get it.
The bike fired up last night so I know the starter relay and all that's involved with that is working.
I'm off to a motorcycle parts swap meet so I'll have a whole new set of questions regarding whatever new stuff I find!

Yup, I'm working on a gauge or LED light that works with the sending unit. It would be nice to see when I get low instead of just going by the miles on the trip odometer. I figure as long as there's a sending unit in the tank, I may as well make some use of it.

I no longer have the problem.
I just traced the wiring and redid all my connections and everything's fine now.
I had a batlle with my LED's as I used too heavy a gauge of wire and the leads snapped off the lights everytime I moved them.
Took it all apart and made my own connections with the bulb. I used lighter wire, soldered/shrink wrapped and epoxy'ed them permanently.
I'm not a fan of wiring jobs and this seca 750 computer conversion has been a test of my patience.
Thanks for all you help and advice.

Nice bracket. I got a single drag specialties Speedo for mine. I hung it off the underside of the top triple tree at an angle to see how it would look, but I will make a bracket like yours.

In an earlier thread there was a discussion of how the turn signal indicator had to be a really high resistance to work in this bike's circuit because of a trick used in the wiring. I guess that's not an issue when using LED's?
Can you guys tell me what the specs are on your LED's? Are you using any loading resistors?
    Thanks

I'm learning as I go and as I need to know with just about everything I'm doing to this bike so bear that in mind...
I do everything about three times the wrong way before I get it right.

I went to an electronic wholesaler and picked out the LED's I wanted.
I asked the rep there what I needed to do to run them off a 12v battery and he sold me some resistors as the the LED's were only bulbs and leads.
    After a million redo's I had what I wanted.
However I mounted them on a '80 XS650 speedo/tach mount only to discover that the tach was mechanical. I've seen that the XS1100 "Specials" use the exact same mount and shell for the tach and they are elec. I'm looking for one of those now.
I may cut off the middle bracket but I'm going to wait as it may come in handy for something later.
