I recently picked up a spare set of carbs for my XJ650J. These came off a running bike and appear to be in good shape. As such, at this point I do not plan on doing anything major to them.

What's the best way to store these carbs until they are needed? Is it realistic to assume they can still be fine in a year's time if properly prepared?

    Cheers!

i would fill em with stabalized fuel, or maybe use one of those food savers thigns to vacuum seal them.

also consider covering both t he filter and engine sides of the carbs with some plastic wrap and rubber bands.

I would suggest that you thoroughly clean them and then vaccum pack them with just a spritz of oil on the steel parts. I would not fill them with fuel even with a stabliser, unless you decide to store them dirty. I like your idea Brian, good thinking. One small note, I have found that the vaccum diaphragms tend to crack unless they are kept moistened with say WD-40 or some such material. Food for thought.

I'd vacuum seal them like Robert says. Good point made to lightly coat with WD40 I'd store them with no fuel in them.
In fact I'd pop the diaphrams out and drop the float bowls and hose the innerds out with some Chemtool 12 spray so no junk gets crusted to the insides.
then put together lubing lightly and seal tight.

The only drawback about the vac seal bag is if you ever need parts.... well you'll need to break into the sealed bag. But you can reseal it if you have access to the tool.

Nice to be ready when you need those carbs.

I might add DONT get the carb cleaner on the diaphrams or any other rubber or it will be ruined,
