So my husband's 1981 650 Seca has sorta bit it. The fourth cylinder is no longer firing properly, and there appears to be some smoking/oil coming from the motor to the exhaust. Needless to say, power has dropped out completely and the bike is not being ridden right now.

We have swapped all sparks to no avail (4th was oil fouled)

Any hints on what we should look at next?

A compression check of ALL the cylinders would be the first step, to determine whether you have ring or valve guide problems, etc.

By the way, XJ650 Seca's wer eonly mad ein 1982............! :D

Hilarious, I've got the year wrong I know. I've had an 81, 82 and 83 Maxim, so I'm easily confused, good to know about the year! So once I've checked the compression I'll get back with that info. Thanks for the guidance.
