Interesting. with 13k on it though if it is in good shape may be worth up to 1000 maybe 1200 at least in last years hot market.

I would no tsay its in good shape with the tank and side covers a different color. Did the 650s come with badges on the tank?

There is no way I would pay that much for that bike. I got mine for $700 here in WI a little more than a year ago and it is completely stock, paint, badges, etc. I am changing all that now :)

This bike has very low miles which is good but maybe that means it sat for a long time. Only 13K on a 26 yr old bike is almost too good to be true, especially in a place where you can ride longer than 4-5 months of the year.

Who knows, I'm still a relative noobie! lol

Perhaps he considers replacing worn-out parts with OEM parts to be an upgrade? $2600? Not in this lifetime.

Well I could see putting alot into these bikes but it would need to be in pretty rough shape to send 2600 on one. I think most would quit after 500.00 and give up. But you think of fork seals, carbs, rubber goods, brakes, set of tires your spending $$$$$$ then have a tranmission problem chain giude or worse. You can for sure blow a few paychecks. Just my thoughts.

Understood, I was just trying to find a possible logical explanation for the use of the word "upgrades" that look like OEM parts, from what we can see ...

Sure, doing all those things will cost money, but there is no way you can expect to recover 100% of part cost and labor when selling it off later used, which is what he appears to be doing. Or perhaps he just doesn't have a clue regarding the bike's value or perhaps that is what he saw one listed at a used bike dealer who had done a full restoration? Who knows. But the price is insane.

    Hey guys
Help me out here. Upgraded forks? Does that mean new springs or better quality fork seals? I'm confused. I'm also a little concerned that the tank colour does not match the side covers. 8O

That's exactly what we are saying. The parts all appear the same as the OEM parts - from the pictures we have. The price is probably 2.5 -3 times what it should be.

Ask the seller about the forks,,, who knows what they did with them...They might get high teens if lucky...
In 2006,,,I was asking 4200 and got like 3800...The orange 81xj650 with 36K miles...
    Good luck to the seller...

For those still watching...the guy dropped his asking price by $500.00 and added a statement about "no lowball offers." Lots of luck!

i would give him no more then a dollar for that bike. that paint job is horrible. i dont know about you but a yellow bike come on. and the fact that the upgrades are just replacements shows that this guy DOESNT know what hes selling. i would ask him about the forks and i know his response. we bought them new direct relacement very expensive upgrade. i had a guy say that about a car i was going to buy. once he said that i didnt even say sorry no longer interested before i peeled rubber down the street. i would go see it and point out every little thing wrong with it.

mind you im in a little bit of a pissy mood right now.

dumb people hurt my head. lol

People just want to try to recover money for their time, parts and efforts. Lets face it most of us are hobbieists. We spend cash on these bikes for the love of doing it.

I help a lot of people with computer things. I couldn't begin to charge them what the work is worth in the corporate world or even what most people charge in the private sector. I do it because I like helping people.

If you enjoy working on bikes and pick up old ones to work on or customize, if you don't have a specific client already with an agreed upon price, it is very unlikely you will recover the full value of your time and energy. You'll be lucky if you do much more than recover the cost of the parts to work on it ... Expecting someone to pay $3500 for a bike worth $1200 (maybe) ... well, every now and then someone comes along, but its going to be harder in this economy.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. The first 650 Maxim I found, I paid $150 for and it kinda ran. Got $1200 for it three months later. 'Course it looked and ran like new by that time and I only had another $500 in it. The one I am working on now I have over $700 in to this point but it is looking good and running excellent. I have to get back to Chacal if spring ever comes back and when I am done with it $1200 most likely won't leave me enough left over for even a small hangover.
