Hi new to forum, and new to XJ's.

Last week picked up a 82 650 Maxim.

Needs typical work for bike sitting 2 years.

Biggest issue has been finding the rear cans. (previous owner cut the cans off 3" behind front pegs)

Today I picked up a 82 650 seca. (parts bike)

The seca exhaust has a collector underneath, and is slightly longer than the maxim at rear.
It looks as though the exhaust will bolt up with the maxim.

Will I have to change the peg sets for the exhaust to work or can I stay with the maxim stock position in the front?

It looks like i will have to change the rear peg sets to accomadate the exhaust.

I wont have the bikes side by side until this weekend.

    any advice?
    Thanks

i believe almost all the bikes are interchangable with exhaust stuff beside's the length of the mufflers. im not positive though.

I would fix the Seca....that' a much rarer bike! It lloks to be all there?

But, the muffler will probably fit, you'll have to measure and see whether the mounting flanges to the footpeg brackets are about int he same position, and go from there............also, consider the angle of the front of the muffler collector pipe.

Heat (from a hairdryer, not a blowtorch) and maybe some fishing line (or dental floss) to "saw" the glue off..........

the answer is : not without modification to the muffler mounts.

The seca Part number is 4k0-14710-00-00 and was used just for that specific bike - year and model ( 1 bike)

The maxim Part number is 4H7-14710-10-00 and was used for 1980 t0 1984 650 maxims only (5 bikes)

    Hopes thiis helps you .

I would love to do the seca, unfortunatley it is in a sad state.
Tranny is locked up, not sure if engine has compression of not.
brakes are toast, electric is worse. I dont think the tank can hold air.

The Maxim will run and the gear box is solid. Brakes and electrical are in order as well.

I ordered Chen Shin rubber, daytona bars, mirrors and grips.
With the parts bike I have everything I need to finish the maxim.
Picked up some clean shocks off a 750 maxim on ebay.

All total I have $485 into this.

You don't even need the heat, just some STOUT fishing line and "garotte" it off. I work from first one side and then the other, "sawing" through the tape.

The emblems for the Max SCREW on however, and chacal has new ones for not a lot of $$.

Save the Seca for later !! Even if you have to buy an engine, then you have a good excuse to drop in a 750- - it fits and costs the same !!

Supposedly, some of the later model Canadian 650RJC Seca models came with a 750 engine from the factory........hmmmmm........

This is the bike I stopped to look at and found the seca[IMG]

I looked it over first, the front forks are toast, electrical seems intact, tranny worked , had compression when I rolled it in gear.

I negotiated a number $500, the forks off the 82 seca should work
on the 750. If and only if I can turn a good number on the maxim, I may do the seca.

Although I need to get on my garage find[IMG][IMG][IMG]

I picked that up last year, I paid $300 for it and had not seen it. Didnt know what I was buying. It is sitting in my sisters garage in Detroit, I havent had time to get it down here to Durham NC.

    Decisions, decisions..............

Hi, I have a 1980 yamaha XJ650G MAXIM. I need to replace the mufflers and wanted to know a good place to order them. Have a question are the mufflers tapered or megaphone, I have seen both while trying to find them. thanks
