Theres a relay under the rectifier that is missing on my 83 750. Does anyone know what it does? Every thing seems to be working so I dont have clue what it could be.

This is only a guess, but would that be what keeps the headlight from coming on while cranking?

if it's the starter cut-off circuit relay i'd say it's the one that won't let the starter crank if you're in gear or with the side stand down. that's how it was on my xs650

The relay (or whatever it's called) that keeps the headlight from coming on untill the engine fires, is inside the headlight housing. That's not what your missing there. It must be something else.
Get a Clymer shop manual if your planning on doing extensive work on your bike. It will save alot of headaches along the way.

+1 if it's gone it's been bypassed - assuming the bike starts...

It starts and I see no signs of anyone butchering the wires.
