Are these XJ fork tubes?

First time post and a question so hello all and here goes.

I bought a set of new fork tubes to replace the ones on my bike but they appear to be wrong, in so much as the bottom of the tubes are different.

In the picture the new ones are at the top and my ones are at the bottom.

Two questions, what make/model might the new ones actually fit and are my ones at the bottom standard fork tubes?

    Thanks!

Fork tubes all look pretty much alike. Even with detailed measurements there really isn't any way to cross reference them since the manufacturers don't publish the specs.

Even if we could recognize them you haven't told us which bike. The bottom ones do look like Yamaha tubes, for what that's worth.

Order a set from Chacal. Then you'll have the right ones.

Thanks for the reply, they were supplied to me as fitting an 86 XJ700 Maxim but they are just wrong! I'm at a loss to what model they do fit as they appear to be the same length 735mm but without a slide rule I can't tell if they are 37 or 38mm.

I'm in England, I presume Chacal in is the US? Anyone know where I can get the proper tubes in the UK as mine are well pitted/rusty.

    Thanks

    Grizgut,
at one day I found a shop on ebay who sells brand new fork stanchions (made in UK). You should contact them and maybe they are able to make a new set of tubes if you send them yours. It's worth to try I think.

    Small world now isn't it!

That ebay seller is the one who sold me the new forks! And the one that is in the picture looks more like the type that I need.

Any other ideas as to which forks I have actually been supplied with?

The plot thickens...I talked with the seller today who got me to check a number scratched inside the new forks. This number corresponds with the one in his suppliers book for the XJ700 Maxim!

I have sent him the pictures above and he is going to make some more enquiries. I can only assume that, beacuse they are the correct length at 735mm and diameter 38mm, that the factory producing them produced some tubes with the wrong ends?

Anyone one who has changed these before confirm that I have the correct tubes for an 86 XJ700 Maxim and not some other front end? Please?

the lower end on your tubes (with bushings) look like stock Yamaha fork tubes, the cat. # says they fit all the 85 - 86 Maxims and the same tubes were used on the 95 - 96 1100 Virago
