Most of my valve clearances were less than my smallest feeler gauge: .038 mm.

I saw this has happened in another thread here before, and the same problems can be attributed to mine: terrible performance, inability to start below 55 degrees, etc.

My smallest installed shim is a 265, and that had clearance of between .076 mm and .1 mm

Will someone loan me a smaller shim so I can figure out what to replace these 275's with? Pretty Please?

Here are the rest of the numbers if you're curious (I couldn't pop 2 of the shims, and it was getting pointless anyhow):
    Code:
    -------| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4
    Exhaust| XXX |.102 |.076 | XXX
           | |.127 |.102 |
    Shim |275 |275 | 265 | ?
    -------------------------------
    Intake | XXX | XXX | XXX | XXX
           | | | |
    Shim |275 | 270 | ? | 275

Bostik; thank you, always try to help. If it weren't for this site and this crew I wouldn't have the sweet running XJ I do now (with another in the works.)

dpawl31; yep, he's got a 550 that probably has never been touched. People tended to romp on the 550s harder than the bigger bikes, so I'm not surprised. HE will be once it's done though.

Damn... that is REALLY tight. Can't even get a flippin piece of toilet tissue in there!

Guess I got lucky with 1 out of 8 valves out of spec.
And I thought mine was tight @ .13 instead of .16~.20 lol.
