Some new pics of my old pail are in the gallery. Anyone got feedback on the bars/instrument cluster - cool or just weird?

hmmmm a little bit too much blank space on the plate, either install some switches, or cut out the blank space, to make it a sort of T shape. But thats just my opinion.... but it still looks TOUGH! nice bike!

Is the plate the new panel? If the box is leaving (Sigh - mine is staying for now) then the plate would look fine with a little speedo stuck in it. If it's to help hold the bars then I demand paint! Blue paint to match the tank!

I like to make demands that mean work for other people...

The plate is the handlebar center section - you can see the 4 cap screws which secure it to the handlebar mounts. The actual bars are attached along the front edge - you can see the 3 bolts per side. The photo makes the plate seem bigger than it actually is - it's sized to (almost) cover the pinch bolt at the top yoke, and the fork caps (both can still be removed/adjusted without having to pull the bars). I was gonna go smaller intially, but after mocking it up this was the best looking version (to my eye anyway). As for paint, I'm gonna polish it up and hit it with clear-coat. I've always thought a bike should have a little polished metal for sparkle. I might machine some patterning to break it up a little - not quite done yet...

The box is staying (...for now- I like having the guages) so I had to be content with chopping it down along the bottom edge (note the lack of push buttons) and mounting it off center to clear my new master cylinder. The whole idea was to pack everthing mounted at the top of the forks into as small an area as possible and move the riding position to a more 'sporting' stance. It certainly improved the feel of the bike when ridden hard, and resolved some long standing annoyances (I hated the previous bars, and my instrument box needed repair, etc). I'd like to get some pics of the bike during hard cornering, just to see how much the stance is really helping - my tires show a definite increase in wear pattern on the shoulders so I know I'm gettin down lower - might have to look at getting a little more meat on the back tire...
