    what year is your bike?
    was it ever running?
what were the circumstances of it's current demise?
if i was to have a stab, i would say the problem is fuel supply, or lack thereof.

its a 82 and i don't know for sure if it was running cause someone gave it to me but he said it will ran but it might be fuel supply because all i did was put some fuel in the lines cause the gas tank it had was all rusty and it also pops out were the chokes are if i raise the choke up and the engine is not on the frame because i am going to put it on a go kart frame if that has anything to do with it

First off, it's really hard to follow what someone is saying when they use no proper grammar or punctuation when they write.

i would check the spark plug wires, sounds like they may be crossed.

it goes 1 all the way left 2 next then 3 and 4 on the right side if you were looking into the carbs right

Bluepotpie, why are you so hung up on grammer and punctuation? Everyone has their own unique skills. My Dad can't spell for crap and he is one of the finest gentlemen to ever walk the face of this planet.

If you can't decipher the message why not just hang back and let someone else help. This is a forum for 20+ year old motorcycles. If someone can get enough info in a post to get the message across then that should be good enough.

Just my 2 cents. Why do I feel like defecation is about to hit the rotary oscillator?

Just thought I needed to say something befor someones feelings are hurt and they wind up avoiding this forum..

sorry if i came off to harsh here. it's just tough to figure out exactly what someone's saying when it's all one run-on sentence comprised of a bunch of thoughts smushed together. i'm not suggesting anyone needs to be an english major or anything, it would just be nice if they put a little thought into the planning of what they write.

I apologize if i've offended anyone.

Back to the issue at hand. mine did this when i had 2 of the plug wires reversed. On my 750, the coils each have 2 wires going to them. both have a red/white wire and one has an orange, and one has a gray. the one with the orange is for cyl. 1 and 4, and the one with the grey is for cyl. 2 and 3.

Also, as you sit on the bike, cylinder 1 is on the left, then 2, then 3, then 4 on the right.

I agree. Sometimes it's VERY tough to figure out the question. Maybe I should get some help from my padre at times like that! The man is 79 years old and just smiles now when we good naturedly tease him a little about his spelling. The whole time I was living at home there was a canister in the kitchen labeled 'Flower". Flower was one of the primary ingredients in cookies, pie crusts, etc. My mother was an avid reader, crack speller, and had gorgeous penmanship but couldn't turn that flower into a decent tasting unburnt cookie to save herself!

    Man are we each unique?

I had the same problem with my 750 and changed the plugs and it started. The old plugs looked fine but were not.

I believe the wires from the left side coil should go to cylinders 1 and 4. And the wires from the right side coil to cylinders 2 and 3. That's how they are on my XJ700.

Scrapkilla, Assuming you have the ignition routed correctly( orange to 1 + 4) and assuming you have adequate compression and a good ground, then it has to be carbs !

    * did you see the "beanie screens"?
    * did you run a fine wire thru the jet in the float BOWL?
    * wire thru the little brass tube?
    * remove the pilot screw and little "O" rings?
    * wet set the floats? (the flood test)

These carbs have alot of tricks to them. Search : "whole nine yards"

I agree with the try changing the plugs as my 87 Ninja wouldn't start. Plugs looked fine but just popped when I turned it over. Put new plugs in and she fired right up. Didn't help that 2 of the plugs were only finger tight also.
