OK before all you Pods Nazis get your knickers in a twist,
This is not a Pods V.S. Air filter box question!!!!!

I Understand Yamaha nailed it with the air box and that switching to pods means im walkinging into a tuneing nightmare but I want to chop the ass off my Maxim and weld it ridged. There will not be enough space to keep the air box and besides the pods just look so damn cool!!!

    So My question is.....

What type of pods do you use, what did they cost, did you have to rejet.

    Thanx Bugz

i have the uni foam pods, and they sit right inside my thigh when i put my feet down, and as a result, i have worn through the foam on both sides. i will be swapping them out for k&n pods, me thinks.

Im using the cheapy pods. Now they do their job but they are a b*#$%! I have one that likes to fall off, and another that doesnt like to mount right unless I put a little extra attention on it.

They work though and will save you a few bucks initially compared to the uni or k&n's.

Good luck the tuning and re-jetting is the best part, but youll know youre carbs once you get it tuned.

Yeah dqnjuan I have heard you either learn to love tuneing or you drive your bike off a cliff!!! Im hopeing I learn to love tuneing!!

I am just starting to get into the wrentching side of rideing but haveing a blast. I am gonna get the pods then go to my mechanic and try and get him to teach me the ways.

P2 I just checked your build looks good man....I mean Guys. What type of cheap ebay pods are you running? If they are workin well with no rejetting maybe that what I should be aiming for.

I have used the unifilter foam pods on several bikes. IMO, they suck. The black rubber around the clamps split. The chrome caps that are glued on come off.

I just bought a few sets of 'Standard' pods from SportingForLess on ebay for a few of my bikes. They were only 30 shipped for four. That's a lot cheaper than the Uni's. I have had them on for a week or so with no problems. Judging from the construction, they are better than the Uni's.

K&N would be primo, but I don't have deep enough pockets

haha, I didnt realize that. I'm just doin what I do - lovin' motorcicles.

    BTW, Emgo's are another alternative.

One thing to watch out for though, there are two holes near the bottom and one slot at the top of each carb intake. You don't want to block these passages with the pod's housing.

Uni's are good about not blocking this, but bad about everything else. Emgo's and Standard's run the risk of blocking these ports. I havent had any problems with my standards though. As long as they arent pushed way down on the carb body, there shouldnt seem to be a problem.

I bought 4 52mm pods off oldbikebarn.com, they run around $15 each, I've put 12,000 miles on my bike in less than a year, and I havent had not one problem with them...and yes you do have to rejet, and since your doing that might aswell up grade your ext/muffler, since you'll have to rejet for that aswell, good luck with your build

My bike had Uni foam filters when I bought it, no idea if they rejetted or not, but they wore through on me, just like yourownself's did. I replaced them with a pair of K&N RC-2372 filters I found on eBay for $80 - not only do they LOOK better than the foam pods (the nice red pleats with a chrome backing) but there's no way they'll fall off, AND the bike runs better than ever now, with no additional tuning changes from when the foams were on it.

Huh...just found a better price than even I paid:
