I cut oversize pieces of foam, stuck them in place with contact adhesive, then shaped them with a very sharp carving knife.
    It's ready for covering now.

The pros do exactly the same thing; and then before putting the cover on add a thin (1/4" maybe) layer over the whole thing first.

The folks who did my seat "give away" their process on their website, take a look: http://www.sargentcycle.com/cscb750.htm

Yeppers and I had them add the colored welt. The sun washed out the bike's graphics in this photo so you can't tell but the welt REALLY matches the stripes.

These folks do great work. I realize the logistics are a bit far for you Wiz, but for anyone here in the States I highly recommend them.

Top job that, Fitz, here's a pic of the pro job I had done on my CB750, cost AU $ 160.00. This one is being done by my neighbour, who has an upholstery business, see how it turns out.

Unfortunately, there was a 'one bike at a time' policy imposed by the Ayatollah & it had to go. Since then she has become a less strict fundamentalist & two bikes are now ok.
