He just picked up this '05 Bonneville America ( 800cc ). He hasn't rode in 20 years but im happy he's back into it. Now we can go riding!

It's all stock, except for the pipes and the carbs are jetted. Runs good and has that unique Triumph sound!

I must say its quite a difference going from my beat up Yami to his bike. Everything "feels" so much nicer. I'm thinking mine might still be quicker, but its hard to tell.

Anyways thought you guys would enjoy the pics...

I'm sorry but I think that Triumph is hideous. Just looks like they are trying too hard you know.

Looks like a Bonneville fell in a vat of "Harley" and that's what crawled out.

The biggest problem with the new Triumph (twins) is they're not new. Both pistons still go up and down together. They never modernized the parallel twin, just made it look spiffier.

If I'm not mistaken, they retarded the timing a little bit on this guy, the other cruiser, and maybe the Scrambler too. For nothing else than to give it a 'ba dum ba dum' exhaust note and give the engine just a little character. The bonne's and the Thruxton (one of my 'lottery' bikes) have the primary balanced.

Not my style, but looks nice to me. I think the bikes coming out of that factory are all really top notch.
And I'm envious your riding with your old man!

Actually this one has the 270 degree crank so one piston fires at 270 and one at 450. Supposed to be a bit smoother that way.

As far as the looks, not my style either, but my dad is almost 60. He likes the look of Harleys, but hates the persona. He's had Triumphs when he was younger. So to me it seems like the obvious choice for him.

450? you mean the crank is bigger than a circle? a crank is 360 degrees round.

You must be the only one here who thought THAT was what I was implying.

I meant cylinder one fires at 270 degrees, and number 2 doesn't fire until another 450 degrees of rotation, followed by number one again 270 degrees later.

But since you already are a Triumph expert I probably didnt need to explain that.

Thanks to everyone who had something nice to say about the bike though! 8)

Sweet! Nice bike. What kind of final drive does it have? chain or belt?

Dude, very nice bike. I know how you feel about the folks who responded with what a pos it is (in their opinion). There is no doubt that when I show up at my friends house (He rides a GWing - only slightly less insufferable than some Harley riders). Everything he has is the only way to go. If you have something different it's sh*t.

It'll be interesting the first time we are together and both bikes need to be put on their center stands. He can horse it. I'll push the button! What a ridiculous feature to put on a bike yak yak yak blab blab blab.

I hate people when they behave that way.

Thanks you guys. It's a chain drive. And a power centerstand? Thats the best invention ever!

First off, I never said (or even implied) that it's a POS; it's a damn fine piece. I was merely pointing out that Triumph have gone the "Harley" route in resurrecting/continuing outdated design concepts long after there are much better alternatives that could be applied.

I'm a MAJOR fan of British bikes; I've ridden them all my life and still do.

And what in all bloody blue blazes does being "near 60" have to do with anything??? That describes about a quarter of our membership, present company included. I sure as heck don't need a power centerstand...

That is a fine looking machine!! I prefer triumph's more sport minded models like the sprint or speed triple but they sure know how to make a nice looking bike of any style!! I hope your Dad enjoy's it and I'm sure you will both enjoy the ride together.
