I am buying a new bike and need to sell my 1981 XJ550 Maxim. I have put a lot of effort into trying to make this a very ride-able bike, and it shows. In the last year I have put on new brakes, new chain, new battery, new tires, and cleaned the carbs. I have tuned the carbs with carb sticks + YICS tool, to make the bike run well. I am religious about changing the oil, and it was done 100 miles ago. The bike has about 11,800 miles on the odometer, 3,500 of them are from this last year of riding. I bought this bike as my first bike to learn to ride from an older man who had owned it a long time. It was perfect for a starter bike. The red paint + leather are in good condition, and I am including a windshield, soft saddle bags, and a backrest that the previous owner hand fabricated. The bike has both of the side covers in good shape (these can be hard to find), and the carb boots are in good shape (common source of trouble). I average 42 MPG in town, and about 50 MPG on the highway doing 65-70 MPH. I also have the service manual, and some extra oil filters. I am asking $1500 obo. I will email pictures upon request.

Also, the bike is located on the Northeast side of Indianapolis, near 96th St. and I-69.
