Well guys, I did it......

I pulled the trigger on a 2001 BMW K1200 L T, as in Luxury Tourer. She's a big'un at 753 lbs with oil and gas, no passengers. I bought the matching side car in the hope that my wife will spend a little time with me on my motorcycle escapades.

The sidecar is a convertible, unlatch the top and put it in the trunk. The trunk holds 14 cu ft of gear. Plenty of space for a tent, some sleeping bags, an ice ches, stove/ lantern, etc.. It is freakin huge.

Now I have to get my trike/sidecar endorsement from the state of Washington. Written/skills test and more $. Well, at least I will be tested safe! Yuk yuk!

So I don't want to hear any grape, Welches, Concord jokes! The color is Bmw 'Mauve' andin some cultures it is considered sophisticated.

BTW it has heated seats, heated grips, jacks for heated clothes, a high budget stereo with a 6 CD changer, etc. It does not however have the electro-hydrauluic center stand. The centerstand was not available until 2005. I couldn't pass it up as the owner came down just less than $3000 from what he was asking.

Oh, it has 7885 miles on the odometer.

Just noticed the following note on the "other" forum. (I) have over a 100 thou on mine, too. Before they tear the bike down to replace the guides, be sure they check the valves and put in new buckets if they are tight.

Just can't get away from buckets and shims can I??????

Looks like quite the set-up. Talked to a Virago guy earlier in the year, and he had a BMW and loved it.

Seriously, nice rig. You've probably already discovered that riding a sidecar rig is NOT like riding on two wheels NOR is it like a trike. Takes a whole new skillset to master; good luck and keep your wits about you.

 

I'm pretty stoked. There were only 3 of them to choose from between Seattle and San Diego. Only one with a sidecar and I got it.

I forgot to mention the beast has a 65 AMP alternator. She'll run nearly anything you can bolt onto it.

As far as your buddy goes..... Now you know a Beemer guy who used to own a Virago. Man that thing did scoot. Didn't scoot past any gas stationms though because the tank was too small.

Yeah, purple elephant jokes are ok. I have to admit I haven't ridden it yet! No way was I going to climb on that thing before it's mine. I won't pick it up until toward the end of next week. I have to wait until after the 18th to sell stock to pay for it or I'll be out 35% for capital gains. Then the in-house brokerage delay to cut the check, then the mail time, etc

I felt like I was at the pet store. Here you go. Just hold the little doggie(here's the keys why dontcha take her for a spin... Evil grin). Once you've held/ridden one you can't say no. One difference. You drop the little doggie, you apologize and exit stage left. Drop the Beemer you're gonna buy it for sure!

I will take a test drive before I do finally take possession and pay the final bucks. Don't anticipate any probs though.
