Am I screwed?

So I took my carbs apart. Something is not wanting to make this bike run after my little spill.

I took them apart one by one. #1 #2 clean as a whistle, still cleaned them anyway.

#3 float was stuck... but the little thingies that hold the level of the float, I have no idea what this thing is called, one of them is broken and barely holding on for dear life.

How do I fix this.. or do I need a new carb? I'll get a picture as soon as I can.

 

Are you refering to the post that the float pin goes through. If that is broke you could use some JB Weld on it. If its clean and you can get it on there straight you might be lucky. Or you could get another #3 carb body from someone.

 

You're talking about the 2 posts that hold the float pivot pin? One broke?
How hard did you fall?? !!

These have been repaired with JB-Weld successfully.
The surfaces have to be spotlessly clean, and no cleaner residue.
After 2 days check that the pin does not bind at all.

Agree with the JB weld. I generally have pretty good luck with that stuff.

Once you JB weld the post back together, if the pin binds going in and doesn't want to go, very carefully drill out any excess JB weld so that the pin will fit again. Make sure you have the right size bit and don't get into the aluminum. Once you get the post set, you could run a toothpick very carefully through the hole to make sure you don't cover it up.

 

Are the carbs compatable with the XJ750,..as I have spare pieces I could send you (hitachi)

 

Yeah those thingies. I fell hard enough to dislocate my knee cap and hobble around with a full leg brace for 3 weeks. I don't know if the fall broke it... or if it was like that before. This is the first time I've totally torn down the carbs on my bike.

I'll get some JB weld while I'm out getting spark plugs, and the stuff to make a bench sync tomorrow. Hopefully that fixes it.

 

JBWeld is great stuff but to reiterate what everyone else said, UBER CLEAN mating surfaces on the parts to be joined. And mix the JBW on a piece of clean glass or aluminum foil.
