    any ideas of what to do?? i have had my carbs cleaned at a bike shop, i installed them and it still won't run with being choked? if i take off the choke it dies. i have four carbs. I have know idea what to do, someone told me i needed to get it sync'd but my understanding is that to sync it has to run..
    Yhanks for any ideas

    When the shop cleaned them, did they tell you if they also did a bench sync? My guess is probably not. Search for bench sync on this site and have a look at your carbs to see if it looks like they were done.

    After you bench sync and assuming that the bike shop did a good job with the cleaning and assuming that they got the float levels right, it should run for you to do a final sync. There's a lot of assuming going on, so you will need to double check what the shop did.

    Go ahead and check your float levels while you have them off and give the underside the once over to evaluate their 'clean job'. Especially check the enrichment circuit. That will give you an indication of their level of work.

    If it won't idle without 'choke' my money says the little tubes and jets in the carb bowls didn't get cleaned. From what I've seen the shops around here charge people to do, I'd be surprised if they got into em at all. The local harley shop charged a neighbor of mine for a 'full spring tuneup' and when we got the bike back the only thing they had done was spill brake fluid on the gas tank.

    OKay I just got back in and i got it to run, Finally, I had to unscrew the little setscrew in the front of the carbs (I dont know what its called i'm a electrician not mechanic) and then i had to adjust the knob on bottom of carb to almost closed and its will run without choke, but it now idles aboout 2000, i know im geting closer now what

    Whoops... You just adjusted your air/fuel mixture.

    Do a search on plug chops to learn about how you need to tune that mixture. You are shooting for light tan colored plugs. It takes some patience.

    From where you are now, you need to do a sync of the carbs. So, your steps will be:

    Sync
    Plug Chop
    Adjust
    Sync
    Rinse, lather, repeat until you get light tan plugs.
