First, I know my carbs aren't synced properly yet, but that they are quite clean and all passages clear.

I usually have to use choke to get started, and as the bike warms up, I can turn of the choke, but I have to turn it down gradually or it will stall when idling.

Yesterday, I took it out for a ride and after a while, with the choke completely off, it started idling at a bit over 2000 rpm. Another 10 min later and it had moved up to a bit over 3000 rpm idle. I verified that the chock cable was properly moving enrichment valves/lifts/whatever they are called and then lowering them down to completely seated. So even with the choke/enrichment off, it was idling at over 3000 rpm. When allowed to cool and restarted, idle returned to normal.

Any suggestions as to possible issues?

heat related? you have an airleak some where, sounds like one of the boots is not properly seated and when the bike gets hot its expands causing it let air in cuasing the bike to idle high.

Interesting. I will check that. So with the increase in air it could actually pull more fuel? I thought that thinned the mixture instead. I'll do the test with ether/starting fluid.

Another note I forgot to mention is that when I turn the wheel, like when parking, the engine revs up. From what I could see on the bike, the choke cable is not getting pulled at this time, but I couldn't see the throttle cable while turning as that is in the middle of the carb rack.
