Hi folks, On My XJ700 i cant remember how smooth the gearshift was B4 (owned since Feb09), Now i went with Mobil full Synthetic -JASOMA rated (Maxim-X dot com says its good for clutch) with about 10% Lucas stabilizer, She starts with full choke like a jem on 5`Celcius idles well 1050 RPM No issues on GEAR shift, No slippage, while shift do you usually feel like you are moving gears metal to metal..? Because on my Vstar 650 Normally i would feel much softer no such feeling of metal to metal..i dont know if you guys follow what iam saying....thanks

I'm running Mobil synthetic 10w 40 for motorcycles and haven't noticed any transmission issues. I'm not running any stabilizer though. I do have the 2nd gear problem, but it's not oil related.

I haven't noticed the issue you described, but next time I get on I will pay a little closer attention. It's been raining here the last couple of days, so hopefully I can ride some today.

my 81 750 seca kinda clunks into gear fairly firmly, but really not much more than any other bike i've ever ridden...

maybe your clutch is out of whack a bit? I know I need to dial mine back in.

Just got back from a ride and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Could the the comparison you are making. The XJ's are high reving, so the tranny has to pop on over. I don't know anything about the Vstar, but I am guessing that the engineering is completely different.

Little... Yes, if you put it in gear on the center stand and the wheel starts moving, your clutch could need some adjusting. It could be some other things, but I would start with an adjustment first.

Search for RickCoMatic's feature on clutch adjusting. I followed it to a T and it worked perfect. I knew mine was not working right although it was working. After following Rick's instructions, it is flawless....
