Was wondering does anyone know what the air/fuel settings on each carb should be?? I currently have mine set at 2 1/4 turns out and seems to be running fine.

Next question If you turn the screw in (right) it becomes leaner ?
Turn it out (left) it becomes richer???

Yes I am asking cause I'm not sure.

I am riding to a rally tomorrow and after I get there I ill pull my plugs and look at them but want to make sure if there is any adjustments to be made I do them right. I.E. set richer or leaner..

Your correct with the screw directions. But it's very difficult to set the mixture without the aid of the colortune plug. The best way, but not the cheapest is to have a dealer adjust them with a exhaust/gas anylizer.

    Thanks Richard...

I have ordered the COLORTUNE 14mm kit but probably wont see it until next month as I'm here in Thailand and I have 2 rally's to make this month.

This weekends rally is only about 4 to 4 1/2 hours away so it's easy, but the one on 17 & 18 Feb is a much longer ride an all day ride but I still love it..

jdrich48 is right... you can use what you've done to set a starting point, but there are so many variables that the only way you'll get it 'perfect' is by trial and error.

Variables: Tempature, preasure, height above sea level, carb cleanliness (yours are clean! =)), cracked/non-cracked carb boots... etc

You can use the color of your plugs to give you an idea - or a colortune plug - with that you can see the flame color. Follow the directions - and you're all done.

Right now you must be really close. Checking the plugs and ye ol' butt dyno should get it the rest of the way...

    Cheers,
    Woot.

Woot, Richard thanks to both of you guys..

My boots (Carb Boots) are only about 6 months old so they're good to go. No Vacuum leaks and I balanced my carbs already thanks to Woot and others on this XJ Site, so now I just want to wait and get my Colortune so the Carbs are set as perfect as they can be then I'm sure I will have an XJ I've never riden before.

As of now after balancing the carbs and setting the air/fuel mixtures I feel as though I'm riding someone else's bike. The response is SOOOOO MUCH BETTER than it has ever been. Before I had hesitation if I gunned the throttle NOW if I gun it, my neck snaps. WOW what a feeling and me being a retired Marine I need all the feeeling I can get...

    Again Thanks a million!!
